I started out with Dewalt 20 v. Then expanded into Milwaukee m12. I use the milwaukee m12 brushless set as my main drill and driver over the Dewalt. M12 smaller and less power but works better for my work.
From what I've been buying, it's looking like 20v DeWalt and 12v Milwaukee here. But potentially rethinking things - as a basic homeowner, maybe the 12v Milwaukee would cover my needs...
Edit: also, the impact driver is good enough to use for various automotive tasks and due to its small size it works well in various spots.
As a homeowner m12 would cover everything. And if you get into M18, the chargers are better and will cover both.
just buy these, you won't need anything else and they'll be powerful enough, while being controllable enough for fine work. really no need for 18V stuff for general homeowner tasks these days.

Another benefit is that the M12 line has a TON of different tools including very specialized tools, particularly more than the DeWalt Atomic 12V line.
