I bought this kit on sale at $199 and use it all the time - I never even use my 20V cordless tools much anymore. This is the brushless tool set!

I started out with Dewalt 20 v. Then expanded into Milwaukee m12. I use the milwaukee m12 brushless set as my main drill and driver over the Dewalt. M12 smaller and less power but works better for my work.

From what I've been buying, it's looking like 20v DeWalt and 12v Milwaukee here. But potentially rethinking things - as a basic homeowner, maybe the 12v Milwaukee would cover my needs...

Have this set. Freaking BEASTS. Any homeowner will have no problem getting by with this set. The hammer drill function is a huge benefit in this size. Can easily drill into concrete for small anchors such as mounting conduit, lights, etc. Can be used to drive decking screws, but if you have a big project you probably want an 18/20V set as this one will likely get too hot after a handful of screws.

Edit: also, the impact driver is good enough to use for various automotive tasks and due to its small size it works well in various spots.

As a homeowner m12 would cover everything. And if you get into M18, the chargers are better and will cover both.

as a "basic homeowner", these Fuel tools are still way overkill... these things are fantastic for their size, i grab them more often than my Ridgid 18V tools when I'm working outside on structures/barns.

just buy these, you won't need anything else and they'll be powerful enough, while being controllable enough for fine work. really no need for 18V stuff for general homeowner tasks these days.

Same here. The DeWalt 12v Xtreme is a little less expensive and more ergonomic (for me) but the M12 lineup is way more extensive.

The only time I felt like my M12 fuel could not hang was when I was rebuilding a deck. The M12 driver was powerful enough to drive the deck fasteners but it was starting to overheat and leak some kind of oil so I switched to my Bosch/Ridgid 18/20V.

I have this M12 fuel set and a dewalt 20v brushless set. I'm an avid DIYer, from electrical, plumbing, framing, tile etc. I originally bought the M12 system because it's smaller and can fit in tighter places, such as installing cabinets. I found myself using them for literally everything because they are smaller and powerful enough for essentially all my needs. I pulled out the 20V impact to drive some long lag bolts into a deck and the 20V driver to mix 5 gallon buckets of thin-set, that's really it. If you are a DIYer, 99% of people will be fine with this set! If you aren't using them all the time, it may make sense to go with the brushed version to save $79.

Another benefit is that the M12 line has a TON of different tools including very specialized tools, particularly more than the DeWalt Atomic 12V line.

If you are only considering 12V tools, I don't see any reason to look at DeWalt other than pure brand loyalty.

Looks like you are correct. My local HD has 5 in stock though. Buy a coupon on ebay and save a few bucks more.

This is warm. Home Depot runs tool deals pretty often. I got this set + free rotary tool a few months back for $199. There were other free tools to choose from but I chose the rotary tool to replace my corded Dremmel. I also have Dewalt 20V stuff that I pull out for heady duty jobs, but these suffice most of the time and is more ergonomic in terms of size and weight.
