Home Depot has finally dropped the price on the 20-Quart Rubbermaid Ice Chest Cooler (Modern Blue, FG2A2704MODBL) on sale for $9.98. Select free store pickup if stock is available.

Note, availability may vary depending on area and may not be available in all areas.

For those who intend to use this for sous vide, I recommend you insulate the lid in advance with some Great Stuff insulating foam, still on sale also at Home Depot, 2 for $2.98. Check YouTube for videos on how to insulate these lids.

You'll also need to purchase a 60mm (2 3/8 in) hole saw drill -- size needed for a standard Anova sous vide cooker. Your size may vary depending on your brand and model.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

This is just an average cooler box? No fancy cooling tech involved?

Here's a deal on a larger cooler if this is too small for your needs

A nice feature for those who intend to use it as a standard ice cooler, it was designed to be tall enough to accommodate upright wine bottles.

Actually I use our 10 qt Rubbermaid cooler more often than the 20 qt (there are usually only 2 of us). When full of water, the 20 qt is quite heavy. But Home Depot still wants $23.88 for the smaller 10 qt model. I would expect over time that the 10 qt model will go down in price as it has in past winters.

I think he's trying to make sure that it doesn't have any active cooling systems

Yes that is a great price for a large cooler.

However for everyday sous vide cooking, 33 qt can be overkill unless you are cooking for a large crowd ( and using this outside). If fully filled with water it could potentially weigh over 70 lbs. Much too heavy for most to maneuver around the house. Even this 20 qt can weigh close to 40 lbs when full of water for sous vide. Perhaps that is why we tend to use out 10 qt cooler more often. But it useful to have if you are cooking something large like spare ribs which won't fit easily in our 10 qt cooler.

Darn. 0 in stock nearby and it says it won't ship. I wanted to get this one to try out for sous vide and maybe replace the 24 can Rubbermaid one I'm using as my main cooler and my 33 quart stackable for the larger roasts, ribs, etc. I like that this one is pretty deep for the size.

While not quite as inexpensive, Amazon is currently selling the 24 can red Coleman party stacker cooler for $16.41. If you're really lucky the lids are interchangeable, so you can set up one lid for sous vide on one cooler and the other unaltered lid can still be used as a top for the unused cooler. If I remember correctly this was my original plan until I ran across the deal at Home Depot last year on the Rubbermaid coolers.

That's the 24 can one I was referencing, but I was mistaken saying it was "Rubbermaid" when it's Coleman. I just like the looks of this one because it's so deep while still being 20 quarts.
