They're more or less the same from a functionality standpoint, I don't use any integrations, but there are some things I miss from the Nest. 1) the ability to run the fan on a timer. With nest I could run the fan for 15, 30, 45 etc. On Ecobee its either on or off. 2) the energy usage stats. With nest you can get an idea of your daily usage right in the app. Ecobee makes you log into their website which is asinine. 3) learning mode on the nest - it picks up on your acticty and can create a schedule for you.
That being said, Ecobee is rolling out a large update with eco+ mode. It will address the 3rd point but not the other two. If I were to recommend one or the other, I would say Nest. Buying one for my brother

But yeah I totally agree with you. This is ridiculous. Most sites are cloud hosted anyways which should in theory make load management easy. Having a website fail due to REGULAR Black Friday traffic is unforgivable
