Blu-rays are much harder to scratch than DVDs, should be OK. They have a clear scratch resistant coating that DVDs don't have, it's part of the Blu-ray standard.
Make a digital copy with makemkv or AnyDVD etc
I've already done that but part of the allure of 4K for me is the uncompressed video.

Makemkv is a bit for bit copy uncompressed
I usually transcode once I had the full rip but with how cheap storage is now and how long x265 takes to transcode all of my UHD is uncompressed
So you really gonna make me go try this. I'll not only try it on one disc, I'll do the entire set. After I ruin the first disc.
