Staples Rewards 2% online

+6 Deal Score

Staples rewards has returned for online purchases. I don't know if this is a temporary holiday promotion or a change in the program, but according to the Staples website you can now earn 2% for online purchases. (It used to be only in store purchases earned rewards).

Let us see what happens Thursday if plus members were screwed out of the $4 recycling deal.. My membership ends in a week after Thursday. It is time to rethink my relationship with that membership..

With all the recent reversals (spending rewards online, earning rewards online) maybe Sycamore will bring back rebates! Lol

They probably saw their online sales tank when they stopped giving rewards. I know I switched most of my buying to Costco and Amazon when i stopped getting rewards for online purchases.

Staples has been stumbling around for several years now. They price match in the store but not online, they price match this competitor and then they don't, their coupons have become so ridiculously cryptic that I have to make several trips to the register to see if the breakroom item I picked counts as a "breakroom" item for the coupon...

But with all their games and the horribly inflated prices I still find ways to make the trouble save me money on (mostly) stuff I would have purchased elsewhere. Hard times for retailers and they are certainly not hiring out of M.I.T. for their promotions staff. But of all the brick and mortar stores I hope Staples and Office Depot stick around and can stay strong.

When in the Staples store in Portland OR yesterday, it was close to deserted. Meanwhile, the huge shopping complex near the airport was jam-packed with vehicles. I had to drive around and follow people returning to their cars to find a place to park.

The fat lady may be warming up...

I'd say online PM would come back before rebates. Baby steps.

The reason staples rebates were a dismal failure (and eventually eliminated) was that their Easy Rebates were too...easy. The whole idea of a rebate is to make it difficult for people to cash in so that way at least 50% of the people don't cash in and the company actually makes money. Compare this to the way Macy's does their rebates where you must mail it in (can't do it online) and you must send in the UPC symbol and you can only do 1 rebate in each envelope. You make it as hard as possible. Or compare it to the way Dell recently did a rebate with staples in the summer where you weren't allowed to fill out the rebate for at least 14 days after the purchase (ensuring many people will forget about it) and then you had to wait 60 days and then I had to call them 3 times before they actually sent the rebate.

Staples Easy rebates never made any sense and violated the whole concept of running a rebate.

The second problem was when they had their paper rebates (paper for 1 cent) and even though it was supposed to be limited to 1 per store visit, the store employees never enforced it. So they ended up losing tons of money.

If they ever bring back rebates, I highly doubt they will be easy rebates.

You forgot the third problem (or excuse) that was documented by OotP and sent down to stores: "Customer confusion." Customer: "...your ad says this ream of paper should be 1 cent why is it ringing up for $7.99?" Associate: "...you pay $7.99 now and submit rebate..." Customer: "...that's BS, I'm going to Costco..."

The Staples in my city (a UT college town) just closed shop. Sign on the door says visit their other store in the next city over, and they are auctioning off their fixtures.

Will see if I get another year of Premier for free. Hopefully they don't fix the glitch.

They can say that was the reason, but Macy's still does that (I bought numerous free after rebate items on Black Friday) and doesn't seem to have any problem.

No, they are just a mismanaged store - although I think Office Depot is even more mismanaged that Staples.

I see Office Depot folding shop first, and then maybe Staples some time after that.
