EDIT information from Better.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello,
I work with Better, com and wanted to see if you could please add in the following information to your post on Amex/Better,com deal as it reads incorrect as it stands, especially regarding eligibility. We want to make sure the offer is stated as accurately as possible:
1) Mortgage rates of any specific customer, stated or otherwise, should not be taken as indicative of a mortgage rate available to all customers. Pricing is based on a number of factors, including the individual credit profile of a potential borrower.
2) The offer is only available to those borrowers who have been marketed to directly by American Express, and those who have not received the offer on their Amex portal or via email are not eligible.

I got preapproved for a loan that has only my information in it, but I want to add my wife's information. However, when I try to click the little trash can "remove" button, it gives me a warning and when I withdraw the loan, it still remains on my account, and I can't start a new loan! Cmon better.com, some crappy website design right there.

But I assume they have to do it manually and are taking their sweet time doing so.

edit: yeah, the guy assigned to me has to approve it by talking to me. Guh.

I did not contact them and went through OPs link on Dec 9. My wife got an email from amex yesterday (Dec 10th) with the promotion. I will be using her card for any deposit with better.com. My application is in initial underwriting. I'm not sure when they'll ask for the card details.
GOOD LUCK! In our case Better's rates were in line with what we already have, so we won't move forward with the refi. But great opportunity for those in the market nonetheless!

So I got preapproved for a loan from better, 15 yrs with 3% APR and the total fees/credit/point was $5879. Once I signed off and log in back to my better account the fee chane from $5879 to $6406. very disappointed.......

Make sure you check the final fee before move to the next step...

Card details will be asked for right before closing.

Nothing good comes from credit cards. - Dave Ramsey
Dave Ramsey is usually talking to people that have bad financial habits so like most things if you don't know what you are doing then yes it is better to stay away. Credit cards are a tool just like a hammer. If you don't know how to use it there will be a lot of pain and destruction but if you know what you are doing then it is very beneficial.

My pay off is $89,500 and owe 14 1/2 yrs, Could I get a refinance at a 4 % for $100,000 and keep the same monthly payment with same amount of yrs?? This loan is at 6 %. I would use the extra $20.500 for home improvements like a new roof, etc.

Worst advice ever. Maybe it's true for people who spend more than they make and go into debt.

I see a few people here with a rate of 3.0 or lower. How would someone like me go about getting a 3.0 % or 2.5 % refinance rate? Does it go by income per yr? Where you live??

I was just using the mortgage calculator and that 15 yr payment looks very attractive. Credit wouldnt be a problem as I was at 805 last month. I have no other debt except this mortgage.

What's your current payment? Should be easy to figure that part out. And your math is off about $10k. $100k-$89.5k=$10.5k

The AMEX benefit is two parts.
1. No appraisal fee (most lenders charge about $500) for this. So you won't see this on your fee disclosure, like you would for other lenders.
2. A statement credit on your credit card statement for $2,500 after your loan closes.

No, those should be your fees. Keep in mind you might have to bring more cash to closing for prepaid interest, and to reestablish any escrows you have. Your current lender would return your escrow once the loan is paid off.

There should be no other fees unless you buy down your rate.

You will need to tell Better if you want your taxes or home owners insurance escrowed. It is your choice.
Do you still get the $2500 statement credit if you pick a no fee closing?

Yes, yesterday I was told it's valid for ANYONE with an active Amex consumer card in good standing. I asked them to send me an email to confirm this, which I still haven't received. Anyone else called Amex to confirm?
I'd love to see a confirmation that this works for any amex as long as you click thru the link

Call them asking for the rate you have before. That's what I did. They even gave me $500 discount on the load fee.

I second the advice about calling or emailing them. I had this happen and they adjusted and apologized. I assume this is a new system and glitches at their end.
