EDIT information from Better.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello,
I work with Better, com and wanted to see if you could please add in the following information to your post on Amex/Better,com deal as it reads incorrect as it stands, especially regarding eligibility. We want to make sure the offer is stated as accurately as possible:
1) Mortgage rates of any specific customer, stated or otherwise, should not be taken as indicative of a mortgage rate available to all customers. Pricing is based on a number of factors, including the individual credit profile of a potential borrower.
2) The offer is only available to those borrowers who have been marketed to directly by American Express, and those who have not received the offer on their Amex portal or via email are not eligible.

currently locked in with better.com but i can hardly get a respond from them now. i think once they know they have you, they will no longer answer your question until closing date.
You can call them, but i agree. They do everything to get you locked in. Since then it's been a bit slow response.

And that's why I ended up having to go local. Once you lock, they're done with you. Which is dumb on their part, like why would you stop competing when I can still walk away?

And full on BS on adding in the $2500 in their rate match! It's not on the disclosure, it doesn't count. They refuse to honor a match they should pay the 1k.

So you extended the life of your loan to pay less? Don't you want no mortgage when you retire?
I'm good not paying off a loan at 3.25%, was previously at 4.25%. Opportunity cost vs other investments. Was about five years into the prior 30 year loan. After tax deduction it's basically inflation rate.

who was your agent ?
Hugo & Roland. Both steller at follow up and quick responses. Bit of a hard sell/sense of urgency, but feel free to let it take as long as it needs to get better bids.

Are they giving you $1000 for not being able to match?

https://better.com/with/better-price-guarantee/

I tried to have them match another estimate and they ghosted me. Sent them the estimate last Thursday and there's been no response.

Before this, I was getting emails/text msgs/phone calls from them everyday.
No, their wriggle out of the guarantee is that I locked with them, after lock it doesn't apply (according to them). They got a bit sneaky and started including the $2500 cash back in their rate/fee matches.

I'm close to closing, but I found a better rate today and figured I'd try submitting it. Unfortunately, they accounted for the $2,500 Amex credit in comparing the rates, so they claimed I was already getting better deal. Oddly, they didn't account for the Amex credit when I matched the first time.
Same happened to me. They couldn't match the last few rates I got from Cash Call even considering the $2500 statement credit.

I guess we all should have read the reviews:

https://www.yelp.com/biz/better-new-york-3?start=20 [yelp.com]

From my experience with them the past week, i gotta say I'm starting to agree with the bad reviews.

I will say I closed with them on a purchase mortgage months ago with no problem. Also this refinance is going smoothly. Where they get a little sketchy is with the price guarantee.

Hey guys,

So i am not targetted for the amex better offer, i just recently closed my AMEX acc.

Currently in the process of refinance with better, should I apply for an AMEX card? Will that affect my refinance/ delay? Would they honor the new amex card for me to get the statement credit?

Got this offer in Oct on my Amex Plat perfectly timed - we were just about ready to refi. My timeline:
10/21 - Requested refi out of 30yr fixed @4.85% to 15yr fixed. Got blasted with 8 emails on first day (welcome, verify, preapproved, lock your rate, i'm your concierge, do you have time to talk etc.)
10/25 - Sent them rate quote from Aimloan @3% 15yr fixed. They asked for a proper loan estimate, not just quote. Sent this over. They pulled the nonsense of including $2,500 credit in their loan estimate and charging sky high origination fees to make it look slightly better than Aimloan's offer. I said that does not count, if you can't match it's fine, I'm waking away. At 8pm I got an automated e-mail that the loan was "updated." They set origination fees to zero!
11/9 - I shopped around for some more quotes and finally just locked with Better. Started uploading docs and working on "tasks". At some point they collected my Amex card info (last 5 digits, card type, etc.). Closing was set for 1/3.
12/28 - Got the $2,500 statement credit on the date the statement closed, even before the loan closed.
1/3 - Signed closing docs. Closing attorney made a mistake, so we had to do it again.
1/8 - Loan finally closed. Ended up with ~$600 credit even after all refi fees.

Overall Better was pretty good and communicative. I would definitely refi with them again if I could get this kind of credit offer. The website is well designed and the guys I worked with were communicative. The closing took so long mostly because we had some extenuating circumstances which took Better underwriting some additional time to process (not their fault). Looks like I lucked out based on some of the experiences of other folks here, but my experience was overall positive.

15 year refi is 2.75% now with cash call. Do you regret not waiting? This 2500 statement credit doesnt expire until 7/25. I feel like in this interest rate environment, its best to wait until the last minute to apply. Trump is pressuring the fed to lower the funds rate. Eventually they'll have to give in for our banking system to stay competitive.
