EDIT information from Better.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello,
I work with Better, com and wanted to see if you could please add in the following information to your post on Amex/Better,com deal as it reads incorrect as it stands, especially regarding eligibility. We want to make sure the offer is stated as accurately as possible:
1) Mortgage rates of any specific customer, stated or otherwise, should not be taken as indicative of a mortgage rate available to all customers. Pricing is based on a number of factors, including the individual credit profile of a potential borrower.
2) The offer is only available to those borrowers who have been marketed to directly by American Express, and those who have not received the offer on their Amex portal or via email are not eligible.

So you tried to price match multiple offers but in the end they couldn't beat one so you went to another company. Now they are refusing to pay you since they price matched other offers. Do I understand correct?
Quote from RUsum1 :
I was referring to their price match guarantee where if they don't beat an offer by $1000 then they give you $1000.

They actually did match a couple offers that i submitted but they eventually couldn't match an offer I got. When I tried to collect the $1000 they refused and pointed me to rule 9 (I think) in the terms.
BTW, here is the fine-print
https://better.com/faq/better-gua...fine-print

per item 7, should get $1k from better when closed with other, right?

Just locked in my loan yesterday at 2.75% for a 20year fixed, -1.2 point. Any one have a recommendation for title company?
My current title company (Chicago Title) is a joke; the title company that Better Mortgage recommended honestly isn't any better (Radian Title)...

This is what 9 says. Maybe they are trying to get around it by this:
Each borrower may only take advantage of this offer once per loan application.

But neither says that they can only match once and get this offer. I think that person is full of it.

Better is refusing the $1000 for my application. "We will beat a competitor's offer by at least $1000 or we'll pay you $1000."

The excuse my Processing Expert using is "The $1000 better price guarantee is only applicable pre-locking your rate"

So, I locked my rate on Better at noon and sending in my competitor's LE by the same day evening... Do you guys still think I could/should pursue this $1000? And how?

Sounds like their interpretation is "we'll beat an offer by $1K or give you $1K once per loan application." In my case, they beat the first offer I sent by $1K, but the 2nd offer they couldn't beat. So I think they'll probably say they fulfilled the terms of the offer because they did beat an offer by $1K.

In fact, given that someone else seemed to get them to do 2.75% on a 30 year, but they rejected me for the same terms, I'm inclined to think I screwed myself by sending them that first offer. They probably denied the second match because there's not money to be made there, and they figure I can't force them to give me that $1K because they already fulfilled that.

The terms seem pretty clear to me that you can't have a rate lock before requesting the price guarantee review.

based on other's experience, they will only match and not beat after you lock.

Here is my experience so far on this:
5/15 - Started application on better
5/15 - Obtained competitor LE from lenderFi
5/16 - Matched with better and rate locked
5/22 - Everything cleared
5/28 - Better completed and obtained Under writer evaluation and approval Final CD ready for my review
5/28 - Insurance sent updated policy documents with Better as the mortgagee (This is absolutely strange as they should not have done before closing. If you get it be careful) I am leaving it as is as I plan to close in the next week
5/29 - I delayed the closing date due to other factors. If not, I would have closed today on 6/3
6/1 - Obtained updated Final CD and signed off with 6/5 scheduled closing date
6/2 & 6/3 - No further communication from Better on Closing formalities. I expect to receive these tomorrow. if not, I will have to f/u

Strangely, the status shows as funded for my loan. I am not sure how to interpret it until I close and see status change. Do any of you observed it on their home page?

Mine showed up funded. I was told this is because they already had the investors funds for this. In my case, my loan hasn't been sold off (at least not yet), so Better's own funds were used and I would hope they already had it! Smilie

you did not enter your AMEX credit card number anywhere during the process? I was told it would happen before closing.

I did enter it as part of my review of Final CD and before selecting a closing date.

That is exactly what they're claiming. They beat an offer by $1000 once and after that they are no longer obligated to that guarantee. This was after I had them escalate my $1000 claim to their legal team.
