Except there are no drivers to reinstall if windows doesn't find them. Good luck reinstalling
All the drivers are here - http://www.motilecustomerservice.com/m142.html.

Download it to a USB and use it while reinstalling windows, if you feel the urge to do a clean installation.

Bought it and returned it. Slower than you would think for the specs. Issues I had is what others have, black screen over and over and over. Restarting, 3 to 5 times to be able to use it.

Imho, get a trusted brand this is garbage
Did you give it 3-4 hours of on time to let Windows update? That's normal for all laptops when new. Sounds like it was simply updating itself.

People... to make it clear... if you expect to get the quality, on the level of Dell XPS 13, with solid feeling, rock stable keyboard and no flex in chassis anywhere... hmmm you are in for a big disappointment... this is a very cheaply made of plastic, with sub-mediocre components, laptop. Set your expectations accordingly.
For an extra $100, the Lenovo S330 and S340 are better quality with a metal chassis. Make sure to get the IPS display and 8GB ram/256GB SSD. They lack the brightness though.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but how would one go about reinstalling windows either for a hard drive upgrade or virus corruption? When my kids get viruses on their desktops I often find it easier to just reinstall windows rather than trying to remove them.

That uses only the built-in Windows software. Unfortunately there's no guarantee it will be supported in the future (which is probably fine, it was awkward to use for backup and backup testing).

Instead, use something like Macrium Reflect free [macrium.com] to make a system image and boot USB. You can install Macrium inside Windows and make the boot USB, and you can also make the image from there, but you'll want to familiarize yourself with the boot USB too, so I recommend booting the boot USB and making the image from in there instead since that's where you'll likely end up restoring the image in an emergency.

I recommend making a system image (either method above), but I'd also recommend doing all Windows updates and reboots first to save a little time. A system image makes (and restores) a 1:1 copy of your storage at the time of the image creation.

It is also possible to download the latest Windows 10 installer, but unless you're comfortable with file hashes and confirming ISO files, you have to use the Media Creation tool to download the latest full installer from Microsoft, and I dunno if they've improved the tool recently, but I always got download errors or failed downloads so I don't bother with it. If you do this you would need to download driver installers and keep them with the Windows installer too, at least chipset and wifi drivers, just in case, so you can get the computer online to download the rest of the drivers (preferably direct from the manufacturer, but the default drivers Windows automatically downloads are usually ok).

A system image restore will have fewer steps and is usually faster. (If you restore an image after 6 months, I'd do all Windows Updates and make a new image). (Also, don't forget to backup your files, somewhere that can also keep old versions if possible).

As someone whose first laptop was a $600 budget Gateway in 2006 (Pentium Dual Core CPU, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD, Windows Vista), I find it amazing what you can get these days. This is the perfect laptop for 90% of consumers out there. All it really needs is a backlit keyboard and IPS screen and it would have it all. Do a clean install of the OS through USB (download OS through Microsoft's site and use Rufus to make the bootable flash drive) and you're set.

I stand corrected then. This is amazing. I'm half-tempted to get this and sell off my 2014 MBP...

This is after 2 says, all updates were done.

This is after coming out if sleep or restarting. Log into windows then black screen. Waited 15 minutes still black.

It works take multiple restarts to get into the system

And these don't talk to me that way. I have 15 years as a sys admin/engineer. It's garbage.

Of course I returned it before drivers were ever posted.

To those recommending a reformat, it is not worth it. I have reformatted >100 Windows PCs, but this was the first time I didn't feel the need to reformat. This machine came with essentially no bloatware. It was a clean install + some THX utility. You can just run Windows debloater (which you would do if it was a fresh install too) and you are done.

It is clear the ppl who are hating on the build quality of this have never actually held the machine. It's a great deal, has a quality feel, and if you check the multiple other Motile threads on SD, you will see most ppl are quite happy with it (although may be salty due to price drops).

I've seen QC issues here and there. Might have had a lemon?

It's really that bad? Did you try doing a clean install and using the latest version of Windows 10 + drivers from their site? It could also need a BIOS update.
