this is becoming an insanely good deal. it was a good deal at 399, better at 349. and now 299? it's one of those slickdeals i'm tempted to buy even though i dont need it!
I am sure if you wait even more till 2021 or better 2022 BF, there will be even better electronics. 😛
Review for the laptop [notebookcheck.net]

Seems to be 2 M.2 slots and 1 DDR4.

I have been going back and forth on this since yesterday. I really wanted a more portable laptop to replace this behemoth Lenovo ideapad I have and obviously this price is a steal.

But I can't help but think of a year or two down the line, everyone criticizing the hinges on these and having them break and render the thing unusable, and/or it having absolutely zero resale value if you want to sell it even if it's in perfect condition.

It has all the specs I could want (don't really game at all) but I just worry about trusting electronic equipment that only has at most a month or so of use by any reviewers. Can anyone shed light if maybe I'm being too paranoid

No one cares about resale value for these kind of budget laptop. You not gonna get much anyway.

Don't abuse things and they will last.

That's a gaming laptop with a lot more powerful DISCRETE graphic video than this motile with the Vega iGPU. when you add ram on the MSI laptop, you are obviously not changing anything at all related to the MSI laptop gpu bandwidth. so obviously you will not see any change in frame rates.

Look at the fine prints on the screens of both tests again. They are both configured in dual channel ram, one is 2x 4gb the other is 2x 8gb.

8gb or 16gb is not what mattered. Its the number of channels...

Negative. No hassle at all. As long as within return period

To those who had a chance to compare silver and black versions: is backlit keyboard equally bright on both? Black version has white letters, silver version has black (?) letters, I wonder how much of backlight the letters let through on both. I ordered silver (because it was 5 days faster delivery), but might be tempted to switch to black.
I did not compare them side by side, but I found the silver keyboard difficult to read in low light and returned it. The black version (with white letters) was easier for me to read. The keys use a font that is thinner and more boxy than standard keyboards and the backlight has a bluish tint so it does not feel as bright as other backlit keyboards I have used, but it is still usable in the dark.

did yours come with new bios? the bios on mine is from 8/2019, I know they provide the new bios on their site but i still don't know how to to the bios and EC flash from the zip file they provide.
Mine came with the 8/2019 BIOS. I haven't had a chance to figuring out how to update it yet. I'm still at work and the computers are at home.
Mine had the 8/2019 BIOS 1.02 as well, and I just updated to 1.05. Not bricked yet. Not sure what's the difference.

You could flash the BIOS from Windows or by booting the EFI program. If you're working in Windows, you could choose the GUI app or the TUI app. The GUI app did not work for me (quit immediately upon starting to flash), but the TUI app did the trick. I ran
Code:
AMD_PICASSO_PF4PU1F_ESI_3200U_3500U_BIOS_N.1.05_EC_1.08.00_20191127\BIOS\PF4PU1F_3200U_BIOS\FlashUtil\AfuWin64\F.bat
The RomLayout was changed and I forced it to flash. Upon the next cold boot, the BIOS complained that the fTPM NV structure was corrupted or changed, and prompted me to reset the fTPM. After I did that, all was well, apparently.

I honestly don't even close my laptop anymore (had an issue with previous laptop where the screen ribbon failed because of opening/closing a lot) so maybe the hinges won't be an issue for me

Just google or search on slickdeals for "16gb sodimm ddr4".. Get the cheapest you can find for the single module. Anything with 2400 or 2666 speed is good

Are the letters actually the same color, which appears dark against a silver background and light against a black background?

On the silver version, the letters are readable when 1) there is sufficient ambient light and the backlight is off or 2) there is little ambient light and the backlight is on. When 3) the backlight is on in the presence of sufficient ambient light, the letters actually become less readable because they must compete against the ambient light.

I imagine the letters would be more readable on the black version regardless of lighting condition, because the letters are always much lighter than the background. Does the black version look greasy more readily?
