But I can't help but think of a year or two down the line, everyone criticizing the hinges on these and having them break and render the thing unusable, and/or it having absolutely zero resale value if you want to sell it even if it's in perfect condition.
It has all the specs I could want (don't really game at all) but I just worry about trusting electronic equipment that only has at most a month or so of use by any reviewers. Can anyone shed light if maybe I'm being too paranoid

8gb or 16gb is not what mattered. Its the number of channels...
You could flash the BIOS from Windows or by booting the EFI program. If you're working in Windows, you could choose the GUI app or the TUI app. The GUI app did not work for me (quit immediately upon starting to flash), but the TUI app did the trick. I ran

On the silver version, the letters are readable when 1) there is sufficient ambient light and the backlight is off or 2) there is little ambient light and the backlight is on. When 3) the backlight is on in the presence of sufficient ambient light, the letters actually become less readable because they must compete against the ambient light.
I imagine the letters would be more readable on the black version regardless of lighting condition, because the letters are always much lighter than the background. Does the black version look greasy more readily?
