how do you update the audio driver? i downloaded from their website but it has .Z extension and dont know what to do.
Grab the 7zip utility tool, either the site directly or from Ninite website. Run it. Then go to the folder where you have the audio drivers and extract the .z file. In that file you will see a setup.exe file, run that and then you have your audio files.

Does anyone have a comparison between single rank Ram vs dual rank ram for this single slot ryzen 5 apu?

I'm not sure if I should upgrade( or is it a downgrade) to single rank sodimm from my dual rank 2Rx8 16GB CL15 ram to 1Rx16 16GB CL21?

In case anybody experiences the same problem I did... The "close lid" switch is rather sensitive. I experienced the screen randomly turning off, and the power button not responding to turn on the laptop. Turns out it was sitting on top of something that had a magnet (another laptop actually), and the magnet was activating the close lid switch, causing the laptop to turn off the screen. It's located on the bottom right edge of the laptop roughly halfway between the trackpad and the right side of the laptop. If you're getting random black screen issues, check that. I also ran a magnet along the edge of the laptop to try to figure out where the switch was, which may have also done something to fix it.

First time I restarted I see only a white blank screen after login.

Task manager was still working with ctl+alt+delete.

Hard reboot solved the issue.

Restarted several times and it is working fine.

Anyone else have had faced this issue?

FWIW, I have NOT updated BIOS or Windows. Just stock config.

Could you give a quick comparison/evaluation of the two?

I absolutely hated the HP, but my essential cheapness is making me want to buy the Motive. I"m a noise-hater, and the "silent" feature is really attractive to me. I want a big improvement over the HP. Could this be it, or should I just give up and spend more?

Thank you.
Neither is a wholehearted 100% endorsement, but of the two Motile is the one I'd go with (at the $299 price point).
  • The fan in the HP is on all the time. Normally I'd be okay with fan noise, but the sound is a high pitch whine that I can't stand.
  • I have trouble hitting consistent performance with the HP. Sometimes I'd get around 615 cinebench r15, but other times I get around 415. And now I can't figure out how to make it go back up to 600 ish.
  • The HP panel is 6 bit panel which compared side to side with the motile 8 bit (dithered or not, not sure), looks like it has less contrast, maybe just slightly. However, this makes my eyes strain a bit more looking at the flat windows 10 UI (white on white little contrast).
  • The Intel scores higher on single thread, but less multi. The GPU appears to get about the same?
  • The AMD radeon drivers have much more tweaks and functions to make it better long term, like GPU scaling, and dynamic resolution. Intel GPU drivers have always been barebones and stock.
  • The motile comes with more ram and harddisk out of the box. I'd have to spend more money to bring the HP up to an acceptable level for daily use.
  • The HP plays videos weirdly if HDR is enabled. It looks like it is trying to play two videos at the same time but one is slightly off from the other, giving it a weird 3d effect. I don't have this issue when I enable HDR on the motile.
  • The HP has trouble setting the nightlight correctly. When waking up from sleep it wouldn't turn off nightlight and I'd have to restart the machine.
  • Motile has windows hello IR camera which is pretty awesome.
  • Motile has THX sound and it actually does work and works well. On and off does make a difference. Maybe it is a gimmick, but still nice to have.
  • Like people said, half the motile is metal but the HP is all plastic.
  • Motile is lighter, but has a too short of a power brick and cable.
  • The motile wifi chip is garbage. It works, but nowhere as well as the one on HP.

That's not the same as a color profile tuned for this laptops panel. The difference likely negligible but the ocd me wants to have it.
Well, youre farked then Smilie

Wow! I thought I'd get an "I like it/don't like it" response. I certainly asked the right person.

The level of detail you provided is much appreciated -- even if some of it is beyond my capability to understand. Real world experience is so much better than raw data.

What I found most interesting is your benchmarking experience. I might not know what's going on inside the computer, but I can certainly tell if it's fast or not. And the HP was not. Even with a hardwired Ethernet connection I got tons of dropped frames watching Youtube. It felt slow.

Again, thank you for thoughts. I think I'll get the Motile and hope for the best regarding fan noise.
