In case anybody experiences the same problem I did... The "close lid" switch is rather sensitive. I experienced the screen randomly turning off, and the power button not responding to turn on the laptop. Turns out it was sitting on top of something that had a magnet (another laptop actually), and the magnet was activating the close lid switch, causing the laptop to turn off the screen. It's located on the bottom right edge of the laptop roughly halfway between the trackpad and the right side of the laptop. If you're getting random black screen issues, check that. I also ran a magnet along the edge of the laptop to try to figure out where the switch was, which may have also done something to fix it.
For me, I discovered that the sleep switch was popped out of its socket, and that was the reason why wake/sleep on lid open/close wasn't working. 4 screws to lift up the battery and placing it back fixed it.

i was testing it, it was 75-80c.. i also wondered if it would melt after a few hours, but dunno Im optimistic. there is a heat sink pipe going right there under it.
I was getting 80C in Furmark with a pretty silent fan profile (EC ver 1.05 IIRC), replacing with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut lowered temps slightly to 76C (TBH, the thermal paste job on this one was pretty good out of the box, on the other one with the sleep switch QC issue, there was a massive amount of thermal paste gooped on). On the 1.08 EC, temps were 68C (post-paste) in Furmark with much louder fan speeds.

Just tested the USB C connection and its able to output 1,498 mA at 4,381 mV to my phone. I would consider the current within reason but the voltage too high to keep on to fully charge a phone from a dead battery (0%).

HDMI outout seems a little glitchy sometimes. I am gonna try some other things like diferent drivers as well as upgrading the ram and see. but i do need hdmi to work good as i have to use an external monitor for my office on the go.

About to leave for a 2 wk holiday. I though this motile would save me some weight, but now i end up carrying the old HP 5lb as well as the motile (another 2.5lb).... lol....

Can WiFi Card be Upgraded? I am tech savvy and Hard Drive and Ram are No Brainers, but can someone explain if and with what the WiFi card can be replaced with?

Apparently, this has 1x1, does that mean if I buy and install a 2x2 card, there is only one antenna equipped on this and I won't get benefits? Please, someone who knows, explain the situation and let me know the best card for this. WiFi cards are cheap, so its a no brainer, I want to change the WiFi/Bluetooth card.

Please let me know:
- The best WiFi/Bluetooth card this can be upgraded with.
- Whether the 1x1 on the stock card means the laptop only has 1 antenna or whether a 2x2 card will benefit us.

Thank you in advanced.

There are two antenna wires, one for main and one for aux. I can't advise on the "best" one to get--there are no whitelists so you can go crazy and pick any chipset you prefer. I personally re-used the Killer one from my Dell 9360 when I put in a Broadcom one into that one, just because I'm cheap and didn't want to shell out more for a new card.

I'm looking at grabbing a low end laptop with a dedicated graphics card for doing some very lightweight modeling and drafting with Fusion 360. It's not going to be very demanding. Would there be a drastic difference in this laptops performance compared to the Ryzen 3 / Vega 3 of the $219 model for 25% less?
Fusion 360 will run fine on the R3 version single most applications only run one core. The single core performance on passmark for the R3 is 1633 and R5 is 1799. The R3 is within 90-91% of the performance of the R5 for single threaded task. If you are looking for multicore machine then the R5 might be better suited but it's all depending on your need.

Good to know this works. The description on Amazon says only for Intel processors a few times.

That's not the same as a color profile tuned for this laptops panel. The difference likely negligible but the ocd me wants to have it.

Here ya go. Here are all the color profile files (including THX) off my Motile M142 R5

Can someone try using produkey to see if the bios does have the product key in it? Just curious. I returned mine because it wouldn't auto activate after clean install of windows and updating the bios (using the uefi usb boot)

Just wanted to confirm as I ordered another one
I updated the BIOS and EC and also had Windows 10 activation issues. I ran produkey and copied the key from it and did the "Change product key" in Settings and Windows 10 finally activated.

BTW, I haven't had any issues others have been having after the updates. Brightness, basic/silent mode, sound, all work fine with the OSD still displaying.

I tried that as well and it didn't work for me. Hit or miss I guess

Purchased this. My first laptop in a long time. It was delivered a day early so the box was soggy when I arrived though the contents were dry. There are two unexpected minor annoyances. The keyboard backlight is quite bad. More light bleeds from the sides of the keys than through the letters, which are unevenly lit (silver version, if it matters). The power cord is shorter than expected, too short to reach the outlet under my desk. For the rest read the notebookcheck article, it is accurate. The GPU performance bears reiteration: this isn't a gaming laptop. I can play "Slay the Spire" just fine, but "Risk of Rain 2" is barely playable at 1080p at butt-ugly ultra-low graphics settings and at 720p with medium settings... but LCD scaling to 720p is itself butt-ugly. The keyboard is responsive but "mushy" in that the activation pressure depends on where you hit the key. Overall not bad, but not a joy either. The keys are larger than I expected and engraved in in a terminus-style font. The fan is louder than in other laptops I've used. The multi-core performance, however, is above-and-beyond - as is everything else, especially the chassis. Top notch deal.

P.S. Anyone intended to use windows should note this laptop's version of windows isn't activated.

I accidentally uninstalled Sound Blaster Connect app. The FAQ says you can download it from the Windows Store but I can't find it. Can anyone help?

Yes, Windows comes "not activated"....wonder if this is a way to save costs. Well, it is an easy fix...just click on "troubleshoot" in the windows activation screen and it will fix for you. Annoying, but manageable.
