just upgraded mine to 32GB ram with this:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-26...op?ie=UTF8 [amazon.com]

worked great. probably the cheapest if not one of the cheapest 32gb sodim you can find out there. I actually bought another one also for another laptop.

you can never have enough ram. you might ask what's the point of anything more than 8gb ram?
well, with a lot of ram, you can completely disable the virtual memory and completely run from ram.

also I use ramdisk software which create a virtual ram based disk. ultrafast access time order of magnitude faster than ssd. the 4k read write speed is also multiple times faster as is the transfer speed. I set the system and windows temp folder to the ramdisk under environment variable. a lot of the temp files are now on the ramdisk...

also save wear on your ssd...

There's the reason for more than 16gb ram...
iS there a way to make games run as if it's not single channel ram with this? Single channel is really screwing my fps in games.

the cpu only supports up to 2400Mhz RAM. The 2666Mhz ones should have same performance with the 2400Mhz. But they are similarly priced anyway.

Have installed Mint 100's of times. When I had trouble, 2 reasons. 1. Rufus. I use pendrivelinux or the site one Etcher. @. Corrupt iso. Did you hash check it? Download it again, James Madison U. Pm me if you want some help.
Thanks!

I checked the hash, so that wasn't a problem. I used Rufus because it didn't require an install, but that was likely the problem. I had downloaded Etcher, but hadn't installed it, but after making another USB with Etcher, I was able to boot up (800x600 as noted previously, so requires update to get full resolution). Both USB drives are high capacity, but one immediate difference in the two attempts was Rufus left the full capacity of the USB and left a lot of free space, while Etcher wasted most of the capacity and shrunk the USB to a 2GB image (as viewed from Windows File Manager.

Limited testing, but runs smoothly so far. Firefox, Libre Office (Writer word processor and Calc spreadsheet), and Brave browser (had to install) all loaded. Will have to load it up to see if I need to upgrade the RAM or not.

Anyway, thanks again.

Update to my earlier post. I've installed the NVME M.2 SSD from Samsung and installed Windows Enterprise on it. Via Disk Management, fully formatted the original SSD it comes with. Windows Hello with my boot up is so insanely fast to desktop, if you blink you'll miss it. Also ran Win10 Decrapifier script.

Installed 1x16GB RAM, working nicely. Last upgrade if I do it is the WiFi card I imagine from what I'm seeing here.

Only main negatives that I can see so far is, if anyone has down thorough and rigorous thermal throttle testing. Slight white screen bleed on bottom left and right bit areas at times, like the light shooting up. Build quality is fine for what it is. Laptop is super lightweight and low bezels which is part of reason of choosing over comparable ThinkPad/Book deals. Haven't had the sound issue mentioned by people.

Also one main thing is after I installed a fresh Windows OS on the new drive, I'm not using any driver installations on the machine except for only automatically updated/installed things through Windows Update and Device Manage automatically update to latest on ones that can. And so far I've had 0 issues and everything works great, from trackpad and beyond. Not sure it's worth it grabbing the drivers from the Community Wiki post and I tried installing the THX color profiles but don't seem to be taking.

use google and slickdeals search engine. Search for 16GB sodimm ddr4. Buy whatever you see with the lowest price. Make sure you are getting one single 16gb sodimm and not a kit that has two 8gb sodimm.. Speed of 2400 or 2666 is good but even 2133 speed is fine for most uses.

There' is not really any particular one brand or recommendation.

To fix the mic, what I did was
1. Click on icon "talk to cortana" on bottom of screen.
2. Choose the icon for "settings" on left side.
3. Click "check the microphone."
4. Choose "Cortana can't hear me."
5. Select "Microphone - Realtek(R) Audio"
6. Choose "set up the mic"
7. Follow the instructions after that.

That's how I was able to get the mic working. Let me know if it works or not.

Have you figured out a way to disable the keyboard backlight turning off? Love everything about this machine but thats my really only gripe. So annoying how quick it turns off.

I'd just like to turn it off to save power. Where is the setting? I must have overlooked something.

Hold Fn and tap F6 a few times. Fn + F7 to turn it back on if needed

My biggest gripe out-of-the-box was how dim the display was even at max brightness. Big breakthrough! After installing Radeon Software [amd.com] open the new software and navigate to Settings > Display and disable Vari-Bright. The display will now be ~50% brighter!
