this is becoming an insanely good deal. it was a good deal at 399, better at 349. and now 299? it's one of those slickdeals i'm tempted to buy even though i dont need it!
I am sure if you wait even more till 2021 or better 2022 BF, there will be even better electronics. 😛
Review for the laptop [notebookcheck.net]

Seems to be 2 M.2 slots and 1 DDR4.

Or just buy another one from Walmart and return this one with the new receipt.
Or I can do whatever I want? No need for your cheeky response.

What fan would work?
I've no idea, but check out the post with other Tongfang models, it's quoted 4 posts above yours:
"I have seen screenshots of the insides of the 14" Intel models and some have dual cooling fans." Maybe those screenshots have the second fan part #.

I just want to say, before people come in defense of Walmart saying that this isn't ethical, that Walmart has been destroying communities, particularly small businesses for decades, and many of their employees are on welfare. So exploit them as much as you can.

fark Walmart.
The only people working at Walmart on welfare have poor attitudes and work ethics that match.

I ordered the same charger just now. also got a 100W 20gbps usb C cable good for 5K video signal: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1 [amazon.com]

These things are definitely not cheap...lol.. but at least now, I can carry one charger for everything.
I'd be careful with that cable. I've been trying to find a good one myself and have realised that although they state a power rating, they often don't achieve it; often being rated 100watts and only being capable of 60w. Personally I want a cable that I see customer reviews mentioning 65w or more power delivery. As the Motile can draw over 60 watts while under load. Same goes for any USB C charger.

Can anyone tell me if you guys updated any of the Audio Driver, Wlan Driver, Bluetooth Driver, and CardReader Driver from the motilecustomerservice.com/m142.html site?

I'm not having any issues with the laptop, so I'm wondering if there is any point in updating these? Also, is there any point in updating the BIOS? I'm having no issues of slowdown, and I don't want to screw up anything by updating. What does everyone recommend?

I have Windows up to date, and have installed the latest AMD drivers from the AMD site.

I have not updated any of the drivers from the Motile website. I don't think there's any point in updating the drivers from the Motile site -- if you have issues, it's probably better to get the drivers directly from either AMD, Intel (wireless and Bluetooth), or just use Microsoft drivers.

As for the BIOS, I haven't updated yet. I'm waiting for a BIOS that doesn't have any issues (1.05 and 1.06 both seem to have problems -- 1.06 seems to disable the TPM and change the model to M141).

Anyone else getting bad battery life? I mean mine gets like 1-2 hours max on battery saver and it is saying the main culprit for the battery is the Radeon software, anyway to turn that off?

I did a fresh windows install and used all the drivers from their respective OEM and none from motile site. Either directly from AMD, intel for the ax200, or realtek. or from windows update.

The only weird issue i have is that if i do 10 windows restarts, i would catch it in a state where it goes to the restarting blue screen but then never progess to the bios boot screen. shutdown and sleep enter and awake works fine. no crash whatsoever unless i do stupid things like running too many programs causing out of memory.

i think right out of the box, it used 25-30GB for the default installation and software and virtual memory and hibernation files

Make sure it's not running anything that constantly taxing the cpu in the background. a lot of browsers like chrome also uses a lot of cpu when browsing heavy contents.

I get a little over 5 hrs with low brightness setting and using battery saver setting enabled on plane trips.

I had the same issue with the latest AMD software, which many others have reported (see https://community.amd.com/thread/246292 for example).

I ended up reverting to a previous driver (https://www.amd.com/en/support/previous-drivers/apu/amd-ryzen-processors/amd-ryzen-5-mobile-processors-radeon-vega-graphics/amd-ryzen-5-3500u ), the last Adrenaline 2019 release. Supposedly you can fix the issue by resetting the software to defaults or doing a clean install...

Thanks for the reply. I'm liking this laptop for various things, but this BIOS update situation is bugging me. I've updated BIOS in some of my previous machines and they have been usually smooth with a direction that was easy to follow. But this Motile laptop has such a convoluted way of updating its BIOS that I'm worried that it will brick the system Frown

I've seen directions on the first page Wiki on how to update the BIOS. However, have you personally found any better way to updating it (for later when a better BIOS shows up) with clear instructions?

Also, I haven't gotten that BIOS update screen from THX that everyone keeps reporting. Not even a single time. What is up with that? My model is the M142 (with 8 GB RAM).

The latest BIOS (1.06) is pretty easy to install (once you extract the zip file, there is a flashing program and the BIOS - you call the program with the right parameters and it'll flash it) but it doesn't seem to come with the EC firmware (which is what was difficult to upgrade with 1.05). But as I mentioned previously, both the 1.05 and 1.06 bios updates have some issues.

As for the automatic bios update I'm not sure why you're not seeing it. You could try manually running the updater (it's in program files\THX) as update-thx.exe I think...but I personally disabled it.

I believe the only way that thx bios update would come up, is from actively running the update service application in the thx folder. That is what kicks it off, if the update fails, it will continue to attempt running the bios update on every boot.
