JBL.com has JBL Link 300 Bluetooth Voice Activated Speaker w/ Google Assistant (White) on sale for $64.99 (price in cart). Shipping is free. Thanks DJ3xclusive
I have both. Home max is, as you might expect given the price points, a superior speaker. There are more details to consider, but generally the jbl 300 is 50watts(2x25) and the home max is estimated to be more watts 200*watts (Google doesn't release the exact wattage, apparently, and this number is from an article which extrapolated it from a "up to 20 times as powerful as the standard Google home" comment from Google, so please don't quote me on it, audiophiles). So let's say home max is 2-4 times a stronger speaker than this jbl. It's also heavier, larger and more expensive.
I use the jbl in my kitchen, going to pick up another one for the opposite corner.
Edit:
*This number is most certainly incorrect, but the only estimate I could find. please don't quote me on it. Home max is more powerful than the jbl link 300, with certainty, but by an unknown measure/amount.

How does this compare to a Google Home Max?

No way Home Max is 200 watts. The comparable Jbl Link 500 is 60 watts, even Home max is better, it's hard to imagine it's that high considering its size.

Edit: But for $65 I'd definitely recommend the JBL. Slick!
