Call 1-866-217-4736 from a registered phone and limit Citi selling your information to third parties!

This applies to all Citi cards including cards like Costco issued by Citi.

Remember to ask for a written confirmation in the automated system at the end.

If you don't understand why this is important read the NYT article or below:

https://www.theverge.com/2019/12/...york-times

There are massive data aggregation companies like Factual and Roam. They pay money to apps to give people your location history and build your profile.

They then buy information from financial institutions to tie it to the places you visited

Then they buy information and match up financial transaction time stamps to anonymized store purchase data (from like free rewards cards) to figure out what you bought.

They also then collect public information about you on age, and other demographics

Then they sell all of this as a package to anyone who will pay for it.

update: for those of you who asked about Chase, you must call: 1-888-868-8618. It requires more information than the Citi system when asked if you are a resident of CA, just say yes and limit additional sharing!

Ready to drop them all together. They dropped all the perks on there Amex card about a year ago also. Becoming useless as a credit card company. Time to move on I guess.

As a bit of a counterpoint, I think I have no problem with this. Tin-foil-hat arguments aside, wouldn't you WANT companies to advertise to you better to show you things you actually want to buy? It's all the worthless crap I have no interest in that's part of mass media to annoys me. But show me something I want? I'll gladly watch the commercial (once or twice) and possibly buy it. That can either happen by chance or if they've collected some data Google-style, they can just show me what I want.
Read "Mindf*ck" and it may open your eyes to why this is a problem.

No, I don't want any company having a massive file of all my private conversations in every app and in every text message and every email and every living room conversation and every bedroom conversation... So that I have "better ads". I'd have a total idiot to want that.

If they know so much phone location, why can't they determine all cell phones in the vicinity of a crime and narrow down the suspects?

i registered a fake name as an authorized user to one of my barclay cards, and completed all privacy opt outs. that fake name still gets card offers in the mail from capital one, and insurance offers from progressive.

This is tailored democracy vs the actual one at it's best. You are in their matrix Smilie

I instantly recalled the scene where traitor bald guy looks at the juicy steak. At least he knew it wasn't there.

Weird, the info they shared without verification. Did they ask for SSN when you registered that fake authorized user?

I did it a couple years ago before SSN was mandatory for authorized users (I believe it's now mandatory?)

I don't mind info sharing if it benefits me. My worry is how they safeguard your private info, especially those companies that have your SSN, DOB, etc. If they just have my name and address only, oh and perhaps my favorite gifts, feel free to share them anywhere and everywhere and invite everyone to my Christmas Party, I don't care, as long as everyone brings me my favorite gifts. Hints to them, I have a list on MySpace. Bring it on and bring the gifts. Make it happens. Christmas is just three days away Stick Out Tongue

but if you call this number, Citi will also know your real phone number (if they didn't have it already) so they will tie it to your location and purchases Confused
