Asus ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 AX11000 Tri-Band 10 Gigabit WiFi Router, Aiprotection Lifetime Security by Trend Micro, Aimesh Compatible for Mesh WIFI System, Next-Gen Wifi 6, Wireless 802.11Ax, 4x Giga

Lowest price ever for this beast on amazon and bestbuy which are price matched at 333.99$

amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/produ...AM10XP0JXS - > In stock Jan. 4, 2020 You can order now and it will ship when back in stock

bestbuy: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus...Id=6321917 ---Still available!

not sure how long it will last, but it's currently cheaper to buy brand new, than to get amazon's refurbished product. Previous deal was 4$ cheaper at newegg on slickdeals frontpage. And I personally much prefer dealing with amazon or bestbuy, so I am willing to pay 4 dollars for that convenience.

Good deal for what the market right now is and I like ASUS networking products. However, I would hate to spend over $300 for a router, on sale nonetheless. While possibly useful in extreme cases WiFi 6 is not yet built or useful for the standard use-case of an apartment/single family home with 10 to 20 devices. This will change once Google/Amazon etc devices incorporate WiFi 6.

I would say though that if you're in need of this much WiFi bandwidth you're likely doing something professional. If that's the case, I don't think a gaming router is really the right choice.

If you really need these speeds you be looking a pro gear like Cisco, Aruba, or Unifi. So this router doesn't really make sense unless you just want the cool antennas.
Those pro devices would cost you thousands compare to this one. These gaming routers are built to support person that needs stable, high speed wifi with large bandwidth on 1 or 2 devices.

I know some people spend thousands dollar to get the business grade internet at home but not everybody can spend that much. Personally, I manage Meraki system at work and used the AC5300GT at home in AiMesh system.

I never understood the rage about Wifi being cluttered up for the longest time (probably 4 or 5 years). Turns out the reason why is because I live in a rural area and no one else has wifi. The moment I go into a non rural area, WiFi signals for days, everywhere.

I learned a lot that day.
Well yeah, rural areas tend to be frozen in the past. Urban areas have ride share apps, e scooter/bike owners, wifi in most restaurants plus public transportation, order kiosk, and did I mention public transportation. In the countryside progress crawls.

I wouldn't make any assumptions about a person is or isn't doing based solely on their bandwidth usage. There are several other important factors to consider. Bandwidth alone simply isn't enough information to form a proper assessment of their needs and thus I wouldn't take it a step further and actually recommend unjustified pro-grade equipment & expense.

As I said in an earlier post in this thread, WIFI 6 is not a unicorn. It's months away from officially becoming the new standard because there is a genuine need for the benefits it offers. The idea that it's "possibly useful in extreme cases" and that Google/Amazon devices are the game-changer is laughable. Not everyone plans on littering their house with Google/Amazon devices, yet are certainly capable of needing or benefiting from WIFI 6. And also as I said earlier, there are WIFI 6 devices and adapters readily available right now, and will be the standard on tons of products soon.

If you specifically don't need it, don't buy it. But don't assume that your specific needs cover most others. For that matter, don't assume your specific needs cover anyone otherwise than yourself. WIFI 6 brings improvements on multiple fronts, it's not a niche update.

i have a tp-link 5400 and every couple of days the wifi seems to not work without a reset. it just recently started doing this and im guessing its an overheating issue bc reset immediately fixes the problem. Its is in a well ventilated/open area but i have a ton of hardwired devices through several switches probably around 60 or so. Im probably looking at a new router soon to avoid the resets. Any thoughts on from a hardwired situation if this thing would be an improvement? I have 1 gig fiber service. Several gamers in the house besides several netflixers and the such.

Agreed.

I do not know where you make that connection.

Not everyone plans on littering their house with Google/Amazon devices, yet are certainly capable of needing or benefiting from WIFI 6.

So what is it? (Laughable or these devices may need WiFi6?) These devices with their extensions (switches, dimmers, cameras, thermostates etc.) are an important driver for the consumer market and stand to benefit most from 1024QAM and OFDMA.

And also as I said earlier, there are WIFI 6 devices and adapters readily available right now, and will be the standard on tons of products soon.

I wouldn't call that "readily available".

If you specifically don't need it, don't buy it. But don't assume that your specific needs cover most others. For that matter, don't assume your specific needs cover anyone otherwise than yourself. WIFI 6 brings improvements on multiple fronts, it's not a niche update.

I am making no assumptions, I am merely expressing an opinion based on multiple year's work as a network engineer.

Also, your assumption that everybody reads each of your posts attacking other people's viewpoints is, well you said it "laughable"...

Sorry for my dumb question. May I know what is wave 2 stands for ?
Things that were not fully agreed upon before wave 1 launched like longer range AX signal, Uplink MUMIMO and spatial reuse will become an official standard in wave 2 gear. Just like N and AC before it, there is nothing holding a manufacture to upgrade wave 1 gear to wave 2 standards. So pretty much buying wave 1 product while it works, is a incomplete design to the AX standard as a whole. Wave one means your just a giant beta tester for a manufacture, the joys of being a early adaptor.

Nope. If you need 802.11ax, go Ubiquiti AmpliFi Alien. Ubiquiti > All other consumer network brands.
Lol you keep telling yourself that.

I doubt the price will ever go much lower for this, maybe a bit under 300 a few years down the road. Routers tend to hold there price points for a LONG time. I just looked up the old netgear r8000 I bought many moons ago, newer version, 230$ on amazon. I paid 300 I believe when it was first released.

Mesh is not a needed thing for the vast majority of people, I have a 2 story 4 bedroom house that a nice router covers just fine, even out to the detached garage. Other than perhaps increasing my wifi signal in the garage, it would provide no benefit to me. Others with different house setups may differ, but for many, you pay a similar amount, with reduced features, for mesh systems, when for 95% of people, they are useless.

This router is specifically for speed, and it's honestly it's a pretty good price for this router, especially with it being so new. wifi 6 is not a necessity, but if you're buying a new expensive router that you plan to keep hopefully for years to come, why not grab it? Especially considering everything will be wifi 6 before long, as it isn't exactly expensive compared to previous generations, such as cellphones ,adaptors, etc.

That said, you guys are nuts most of your arguments are ridiculous when comparing if you want to buy this product or not. They've iron'd out most of the bugs from what I can tell online, so if it interests you, and you have a fast connection, scoop it up and enjoy. If it doesn't, there are tons of far cheaper options available that the vast majority of people would benefit from.

I did however just set mine up, running smoothly so far, so here's to hoping it continues that way Smilie
