Fry's is "changing their business model"

I"m sure this is no surprise to regular Fry's Electronics shopper but I was shocked when I shopped at the Indianapolis store this weekend. It was like a ghost town with probably 80% of inventory being OOS. I assumed that this particular store was going out of business. We don't have Fry's in Tennessee so I was unaware of the big changes.
I asked one of the two floor employees what was going on and he informed me that they are moving to a "consignment" business model which tells me they can't get credit and they're liquidating stock to maintain cash flow. There probably weren't more than 10 employees in the entire store. I think they've been told very little about the changes other than to repeat what they've been told and not to offer conjecture on what the future of Fry's might hold.
It looks pretty bleak. I look forward to my trips to Fry's when I am in the Chicago, Indianapolis or Atlanta areas but if this continues, I doubt that Fry's will last much longer. It was really depressing to see the lack of stocked items and the apparent lack of communication to employees. Very eerie feeling in the store. Apparently this is occurring at all of their stores; including their flagship stores in California.

They were way late on jumping onto the internet bandwagon. They had some bizarro name for their website for YEARS, so lost a lot of business that way. They really never had a very well functioning site, either.
They're gone the way of the dodo and Radio Shack, I'm afraid. Too bad.

Sir, Did you need some batteries?
Did you find what you were looking for?
Yes.
Great, What size batteries do you need?
