fyi - I bought a mist ultrasonic humidifier and tried to use it with tap water. The air quality monitor in my house went berserk. There's some evidence out there that you really shouldn't use tap water for health reasons (and also because it will create white dust, and eventually clog the machine).

So.. make sure to use distilled water or buy an evaporative humidifier instead.
Ultra sonic needs "clean" water. Distilled $$$.

Most tap and well water is "hard" mineral rich and will produce hard to clean white, powdery dust all over everything.
I've definitely noticed white crusting with using tap water in my humidifier, but I've been having good results with using filtered water. Not getting the crusting and don't have to buy distilled.

Are you using tap water in ultrasonic humidifiers? I think people are saying ultrasonic humidifier needs distilled water but normal humidifiers can use tap water.

I use tap water in ultrasonic. Now I have soft water, but I lived in a place with really hard water. It just requires cleaning about once every week or two. Nothing crazy

It's not the humidifier that needs cleaning, it's the entire room. It leaves white dust everywhere if you use tap water.

I never had white dust in my room when using tap water with ultrasonic humidifier.
Maybe because I have municipal water?

I have one of these that I got for $30 on a previous sale. Like it very much, only downside is it emits a blue light at night. I was able to put some padding on the bulb to mute the light ~90% so just a heads up if you plan to use this overnight and you're a light sleeper. Thinking of getting another one for another room in the house, very tempted at this price.
