Is that a bad thing?
The Patagonia Better sweater has been popular for years
Tiny people rejoice
Looks costly
Not a great deal
Half off is about as good as it gets for Patagonia New. Sometimes you'll find stuff at 60 or 70 off but it's pretty rare.

I'm hoping because it lasts a long time and washes well.
It's quality material that lasts and that they will "refurbish" as well. Their website is definitely worth reading around https://www.patagonia.c
Couple reasons -
They often choose to use recycled materials and/or pay their manufacturers a fair wage which is good for the planet but raises costs.
They have a pretty strong fan base of customers willing to pay - look for their logo in a lot of ski towns, dense cities, and out on trails.
They are privately owned by the founder who is an environmentally-minded person whose goals are probably less about growth and more about sustainability.
Outside of this "wear in town" fleece they actually make a lot of performance active wear (like synthetic insulation, expedition bags and jackets, etc) which does require R&D to improve year after year.
They have an "ironclad guarantee" which is their version of a lifetime warranty, including free repairs. For those of us who live near one of their stores you don't even have to pay shipping to get your clothes fixed.
They were one of the first companies to start making "recycled polyester".
Their products are durable and sustainable.
We own a lot of Patagonia. It lasts for decades, literally.
Yes its expensive. Its "investment" clothing like North Face.
