I LOVED the SNES version, so I ignored all the negative reviews and bought it a few weeks after launch. I wish I hadn't. It's a terrible remake:
The controls (in terms of moving characters) are "off". Not sure how to describe it but I had a very hard time trying to get my character to move/face the direction I wanted.
I occasionally (not consistent) get this weird lag between audio v visual.
Music is god awful
Visual improvements were quite minimal. It's like taking SNES graphics and improving it to original xbox era graphics.
I ended up not playing it much at all, and instead playing it on the SNES Classic.
I couldn't agree more. There was a reason why it's called "a remake that killed Seiken Densetsu series" in Japan. There was even a rumor that Square Enix only spent 250000 JPY ($ 2300) to develop it. Of course it's sarcasm, but yes, it's that bad.
With a proper remake, Square Enix could give the series another chance, but instead just buried it. This happens when you outsource to some unknown developer (Q studios), and no one from the original development team involved. Even the current producer of the series, Masaru Oyamada, confirmed that he didn't involve in this project at all.
Unfortunately, this game missed the mark big time. You couldn't pay me to play this remake

Disagree but to each their own! It's certainly not the best remake ever but I enjoyed it. There were a lot of bugs initially that caused the game to crash often but I believe it's been fixed. Good for a nice stroll thru memory lane!
