The AKG N700NC Wireless headphones deliver pure studio sound free of distortion and distraction. Crafted for exceptional performance throughout the whole noise spectrum, the Grammy awarded AKG expertise was applied to engineer the AKG Wireless Headphones, delivering warm bass response and unmatched clarity.
1. Noise-canceling is always on for wireless. No way to turn off the noise-canceling for wireless. (Update: There is a button for Ambient Aware/TalkThru. When it is enabled, then you can hear outside. Then ANC is off but I think it is designed to listen to surrounding noise.)
2. Noise cancelling can be enabled for wired by turning on the headphone power.
3. EQ is applied only when the headphone power is on. EQ can be changed only through the mobile app. But EQ setting is stored into the headphone memory. So you can enjoy the same EQ setting on your laptop.
4. I highly recommend the customized EQ setting from Amazon review for this model. Some guy tried multiple EQ settings and shared the optimal one which I liked, too. With this EQ setting, the sound quality is much better to me than my Bose Around-Ear 2.
5. I don't hear much difference between wired and wireless when ANC is on. They sound same to me.
6. When wired and ANC is off, it increases the volume and EQ is not applied. Then sound seems a little bit different. Not much though.
7. It has the connectivity issue with the MacBook pro. I had to disable the AAC Bluetooth codec via Bluetooth explorer on Mac. It means only SBC can be enabled. But it sounds still pretty good when comparing to AAC on my Android phone. AAC is used by default on my pixel 2. Hopefully next firmware will fix this issue.
8. ANC is pretty good. I'm using it for my subway commute. It well protects my ears and I can still hear music when the train approaches.
Most reviews say these stack up pretty well to the top of the line Sony and Bose sets. This seems to be a really great price. The only drawback I can see is they don't support aptX or aptX HD, but I guess you can't expect to get everything for $140.
$139 here. You have to start checking out to see updated price.
Okay I'm good now. The first time I press the link, it brought me to the Amazon listing. Now the link brings me to Harman site which is price correctly at $139. 😊

Can these be used as wired headphones as well and get better quality audio that way?

It appears that these can be used wired, yes. I can't speak to what the difference in sound quality would be, and haven't found any reviews going into detail on it either. I would imagine it depends on the source device.
