Getting ready for 25 comments asking if this has a second RAM slot...

I will save you all the hassle, it does NOT have a second slot for RAM. RAM is single channel/slot only.

How is the fan noise for this model? I want a laptop as quiet as possible... otherwise I may go for a chromebook instead.
Some people complain the M142 is loud, but I haven't heard it personally. The few times I have heard it go on, it's incredibly quiet. I haven't used it to play games though, so perhaps it gets louder?

Bought the M142 last week. Booted Windows 10 once (worked fine), installed and booted Ubuntu Linux many times, it's working fantastically. Best value laptop I've ever used.

I just want people to be honest about the issues this laptop has.
Every time someone so much as complains about something/features missing, they say "It's $200, what do you expect?" or just "add more RAM" or "replace the wifi card".

Maybe it's just me, but the deal is this laptop for $200. If I have to spend more to make usable, it doesn't really work for me.Great value, but corners were cut.

Some possible issues:
-Wifi is trash?
-Prone to crashes?
-4gb ram too low for windows
-usb c port, is for data transfer only.
-single channel ram

Have had mine running for 48 hours under the windows it came with. Without much more addon software installed windows 10 on my system is using slightly over 2GB.

However I did swap the ram out with 16GB. Vega 3 reserves 2GB out of the 16GB leaving 13.9 available for the OS.

- No wifi issues (disconnects or speed)
- Performed the bios update when it automagically prompted and runs without issue.
- Fan mostly stays off, chassis is warm to touch (not a lap burner)
- No crashes so far, all windows updates installed
- Yes, single ram slot and single channel RAM
- Came with 2666 ram 4GB module
- Display is excellent for this price and matte as well
- Keyboard is mushy

I tend to be incredibly OCD about my battery, so the lowest I've ever gone on mine is around 40%, so I can't give you a pure real-world example. That said, the battery monitor usually says around 5.5-6 hours when at 100%, and I usually hit that 50% mark around 3 hours (screen at 40%) so...I'm inclined to believe it's pretty close to that.

I would agree with all of this (I have the M142, Ryzen 5 model). I have no idea what people are talking about with wifi, I've had no disconnects and speeds are perfectly reasonable for browsing, streaming videos, etc.

I haven't touched the BIOS at all because I almost immediately installed Ubuntu, it's working fine, and I don't feel like screwing with a manual update.

Case never gets hot for me. It's gotten maybe slightly warm while playing Minecraft.

No crashes on my end either (Ubuntu). Agree that the display is top-notch. The keyboard I think is...decent. I've used better (my old Macbook Pro), I've used worse (my new Macbook Pro, lol). I love the size of the trackpad, and it has pretty good response, though precise movements are sometimes a bit hard.

I swapped my 8GB memory for 16GB just because it wasn't very expensive, and I like to have 20+ tabs open at times. It was incredibly easy, definitely one of the easiest laptop upgrades I've done, and the easiest ultrabook upgrade by far. 6 screws and you're in.

Honestly for $299 + $57 (memory), this thing is the perfect computer for bringing with me around the house, on a trip, as a general workhorse, etc. Very happy with the purchase.
