Getting ready for 25 comments asking if this has a second RAM slot...

I will save you all the hassle, it does NOT have a second slot for RAM. RAM is single channel/slot only.

lol , Wooosh much? You can't complain about "Commifornia" in one breathe and then point out you spend less for items and services than other states with more conservative state policies. I did the math, which is why I knew his 'Commie tax" was still lower than my southern red one.
My apologies, I read your post wrong, not seeing the sarcasm. I see so many posts here and other forums that people knock Cali for there taxes that I assumed when you said you were in a red state you were bragging and knocking Cali when you were not. Many people do this I assumed you were and I replyed when I shouldn't. My bad, my post wasn't political in either direction, I just thought it was miss informed. My bad, Cheers my friend.

The good times are over - price now $279. And with the Coronavirus and Chinese Production coming to a grinding halt I doubt we'll see this deal again. Alibaba has an alert on their site that Chinese production delays are imminent and even much longer with the current delay from the past week off for the Chinese New Year. Glad I got 2 when I did.

Is there a generic docking station that will work for this laptop?

Haven't gotten into the innards of a laptop in a LONG time. Will these work?

16GB RAM - https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B071K..._lig_dp_it

512 SSD - https://smile.amazon.com/Crucial-...21NP9&th=1

Is upgrading the WiFi necessary?

This video was SUPER helpful!

I upgraded mine to 16GB and encountered a couple of issues:

1. Memtest86+ 5.01 would freeze at about 4 minutes and 20 seconds if I used the SMT/multi-thread mode but if not then it seemed to work fine. It did this on me twice at the same time into the test... and I only tried twice with multi-threads.
2. I had one system freeze while using the machine. I updated to Windows 1909 and so far no more freezes.
3. Memtest86+ passed my memory test if I did not enable multi-threads and the built-in Windows memory test also passed (run mdsched to try it).

Does anyone want to try Memtest86+ 5.01 in SMT/multi-thread mode and see if they can reproduce the freeze? If you do then please let me know and how much RAM you have.

So I really like this machine but the system freeze (I've only had one if you don't count the reproducible Memtest freezes) is a bit concerning.

I upgraded the RAM for the hell of it (no 'how many Chrome tabs will this support' worry, either way) and I, too, and wondering about the WiFi upgrade and if it's actually worth it. Pretty cheap (think I saw a $17 one on Prime?) but speeds seem fine? I guess it all comes down to your LAN/WAN needs.

It's worth it. Wish I had taken screenshots but out of curiosity I ran a speed test before and it was getting 150/150. Swapped the WiFi card with the AX200 and I'm getting 300/300 now. YMMV of course but just sharing my data point.

For sure, that's helpful, thanks! I definitely have the network to support that and hope to maybe use this sometimes for Xbox streaming/XCloud/Remote Streaming — so I think the chip could be worth it.

I ordered a case/bag from incase, they have a sale right now. I got a sleeve with shoulder strap for like $16. Its made for a 13" mbp, but the dimensions should fit.

Is the issue with the stock wifi card that 1) the throughput is subpar compared to the AX200 or 2) it's unreliable and/or the range is poor?

For those of us that don't xfer a lot of files between machines, can we just stay with the stock one? On the rare occasion that I need to transfer a few gigs of files, I prefer just connecting to gigabit ethernet anyway. However, if it drops connection or you can't be more than, say, 20 feet from the router, then I'll upgrade.

Mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I'm going to try to go stock as long as possible as I don't do a lot of processor or ram intensive work.
