Getting ready for 25 comments asking if this has a second RAM slot...

I will save you all the hassle, it does NOT have a second slot for RAM. RAM is single channel/slot only.

Just got one from last fp deal. Nice little laptop. Lightweight and fairly fast for ryzen 3 and 4gb ram. No bloatware at all have 90 gb free on hard drive after windows. This is the link for memory from last fp deal.

Once you add 8gb 2gb is eaten up by Vega 3 igpu. So effectively you have only 5.9gb usable ram from 8gb

With 4gb it's approx 3.5gb usable ram

I installed all the latest drivers and stuff when i received it but today i received 4 more updates. Can you lock down the fn key through any setting?

Or are you simply recommending to install them for stability on chrome?
you cannot lock down the fn key in any way or form right now. That is more of a bios level thing and currently even the latest motile bios doesn't have that as far as i know

all the windows updates and latest drivers help a lot of people with stability. But it won't add the ability to lock down fn keys

i ran the computer pretty hard, testing the 4gb ram.
I had chrome open with like 10 tabs, with spotify web player running, 2 slack windows, etc
installing microsoft 365, and some other file transfer app open at the same time

ended up freezing it, and it wouldn't recover, had to hard reset

my 16gb memory arrives on wed, i ordered from bhphoto since amazon is backordered. can't come soon enough, lol
Which memory did you get?

Go here and read the wiki. And you can have the bk lite kb on all the time.

Where exactly in that wiki does it say how to keep keyboard backlit on constantly?

I see some keymapping software based thing about remaping the fn keys. which is i guess the next best thing though still not completely ideal. But don't see anything anywhere about constant on backlit kb

I installed the new ram and am receiving a black screen?! What did I do wrong?!

Keyboard lights up. But not the screen. Did I install incorrectly?

my guess would be the ram didn't go all the way in and you simply need to push it in a little farther

Try removing the stick and re seat it. Make sure it's in all the way. Should fix the issue

Strange, installed the 8GB DIMM and currently Google Chrome is at 1,639.3 MB running with 6 tabs. Task Manager says 67% of memory in use. Not running anything more than I was before. Not sure why suddenly it seems like I would not be able to run with just 4GB. 300 MB of extra Chrome usage is not the factor.
Insane. I left the laptop closed all day, woke it up and it is at 76% memory utilization. Antimalware Service Executable is at 263.5 MB. Chrome at 918.7 MB. Not sure where the extra memory went but the usage is way beyond 4 GB now. Hmm, I am seeing Windows Module Installer Worker steadily increasing. 378 MB and climbing.

I rebooted and memory utilization went down to 46%. Before I even opened Chrome there were 13 Chrome processes taking up around 400 MB. I should install Firefox and see if I see a similar thing.

I've read people recommending to use Firefox on this machine
