CPU: Ryzen 3 3200U (Passmark 4610, single thread 1634), Vega 3 integrated graphics
RAM: 4GB DDR4 2666 MHz (non-soldered, only 1 slot)
HD: 128GB SSD M.2 SATA + empty M.2 slot (first slot supports SATA and NVMe, empty slot supports NVMe)
USB: 2x USB 3, 1x USB 2, 1x USB-C (USB-C does not support charging or video out)
Video out: HDMI (full size, can do 4k @ 60Hz)
Other: Ethernet port, audio combo jack, SD card reader
Wifi: 802.11ac (Intel AC 3168, 1x1)
Bluetooth: v4.2
Backlit keyboard: Yes (though apparently does not look good on silver model)
Camera: 720p front cam with IR
Construction: Magnesium aluminum
Battery: 47 Wh, ~7.5 hr battery life, 65W charger
OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit (not S)
Weight: 2.55 lbs
Warranty: 1 year limited
Selling points:
-1920 x 1080 IPS screen
-Extremely light weight for size, with competitors (eg LG Gram) being much more expensive
-Compact/narrow bezels - 14" screen on laptop that is the size of a 13"
-Quiet
-Metal construction (Aluminum magnesium alloy)
-Backlit keyboard (some people do report the silver model the backlit is not bright enough due to the silver background of the key. with the black model having the best backlit/key background color combination)
-pretty good trackpad (large size)
-Ethernet port, full size HDMI with 4k
-Windows 10 Home (don't need to convert from S mode, has zero bloatware so no need to reformat)
-Front IR camera supporting Windows Hello (login to Windows using facial recognition)
-Very low price for all of above
-Runs Ubuntu Linux [reddit.com] perfectly (no driver installs, command line edits, etc)
Detractions:
-1 slot of RAM - so no dual channel, resulting in ~25% graphics performance hit
-Comes with 4GB RAM. While sufficient/fast for most people (despite what forums will have you believe), power users may benefit from 8GB, an easy and cheap upgrade
-Not from a well known brand (it was put out by a partnership between Walmart and THX)
-Screen could be brighter outdoors (240 nits)
-USB-C does not support charging or video output
-Wifi is 1x1 (can be easily upgrade to AX200 2x2 wifi 6 for about $18, some people do it to get the fastest possible Wifi 6 speed as well as reportedly better range and less signal drops)
-No 2.5" slot
-Trackpad a bit fidgety for precise movements
-Speakers are what you would expect for this class of laptop
8GB RAM for $30 (replaces the 4GB, so total after upgrade is 8GB not 12GB)

I will save you all the hassle, it does NOT have a second slot for RAM. RAM is single channel/slot only.

If you were able to get yr hand on R3 for less than $200 with coupons and other means, which is what i kind of consider to be approaching netbook price territory, then this is actually not bad at all. but the current $279 is a bit high...
The fan on the R3 is def quieter.
4GB DIMM installation the RAM usage was 1.7GB on windows startup itself for me.
Upgrading to 8GB DIMM for $30 only gives you additional 2.5 GB instead of 4GB

on top of that vega8 wastes a lot of ram by taking 2gb ram even when most of the time it doesn't need anywhere near 2gb ram for video. It should only reserve addtional ram when needed.

There could have been easily an option in BIOS to disable the 2GB limit and keep the 512mb vram limit (as it is with 4GB installed RAM).
I see some keymapping software based thing about remaping the fn keys. which is i guess the next best thing though still not completely ideal. But don't see anything anywhere about constant on backlit kb
I'd just like to turn it off to save power. Where is the setting? I must have overlooked something.
Hold Fn and tap F6 a few times. Fn + F7 to turn it back on if needed

all these laptops with backlit kb should have 3 settings. off all the time, on all the times, and on then auto off after a short delay. That would satisfy everyone! lol...

Long version:
Got the Ryzen 3 version of the laptop delivered. It was a sealed box but noted something off with the adapter - the plastic wrapping appeared to have heavy creases and scuffs. The laptop itself appeared neat, with the touchpad protector sticker intact.
Then booted up the laptop and immediately noticed a stray bad pixel in the setup screen. Probably a returned unit (reason may be this bad pixel) that was 'renewed' and sent to me.

I'm not sure if this would bother me in the long run but at least now it always catches my eye in a plain background. The laptop isn't available in the Walmart website for this price and I read somewhere that it's an online exclusive.
Anyone here had an experience with returning this laptop after opening the sealed box? Would Walmart somehow 'exchange' this with a new unit (Ryzen 3)? I'm only prepared to return this if I'm guaranteed to get another unit of this Ryzen 3 model for $199 (or the Ryzen 5 for $299, if it goes on sale). Else I'm planning to keep this unit despite the bad pixel.
If I claim warranty, would replacement be a new unit considering I'm returning it the very first week? Or could it be a refurbished one?
Would like to know your thoughts on this.

Has anyone had success resolving this somehow?
