Contrary to what others have said...the Homebase 2 connects to this doorbell (and also Eufycam) via its own 2.4ghz wifi (not your router's wifi). The Homebase 2 then connects to your wifi router via CAT5 cable or wifi for internet access. Mine is connected via CAT5. This means that if your router or internet goes down, your doorbell and Homebase 2 still works as far as local recording is concerned. The recording will not be viewable however until router and internet comes back up. Now if power goes out, the Homebase 2 doesn't have built-in battery backup...so your Eufy doorbell chime will still work, but there will be no recording. So a quick solution here is to get a small APC UPS for the Homebase 2.

Correction - chime will not work unless it is also plugged into a UPS.

Cool. Does the Ring 2 give you the following:
1) Local storage to a Homebase-like device.
2) View live and past recordings WITHOUT a subscription. If so, upto how many days?
3) Expand the local storage to external USB device for longer term retention of recordings.
4) 2k video quality recordings

I agree. They also resolved my biggest concern with this update.

"All recordings are stored directly onto the HomeBase that is located inside your home. This means that even if someone were to forcibly remove the doorbell all your data will remain secure."

How does this compare to the $119 wired one? Any opinions on if this upgrade is enough to justify it if I have a power source available for the wired version? Was looking online but don't see much info on it.

This does come with the eufy hub which can connect to other products and serves as the door bell chime. The hub system is probably the biggest change. Also the door bell sits in a plastic holder that is drilled into the wall. There is a little poker that is provided to remove the doorbell from the wall attachment.

Absolutely worth the price difference. You get dual power (wired and 180 day battery) on the new doorbell and includes the Homebase 2. The Homebase 2 has built in 16gb storage vs 4gb storage built-in to the previous model doorbell. In addition, the Homebase 2 has a USB port for storage expansion. If you're looking into installing security cameras, you can buy Eufycam in single units and use the same Homebase 2 for their storage.
