I love how they gave a picture of fish which should never be kept in anything close to this small.
I hope this is sarcasm. The general guidance is 1 gallon per 1 inch of fish. So, technically, you could put in 3 fish each shorter than 1 inch. A lot of fish grow longer than a inch, so maybe 3 neon tetras could fit, but neon tetras should be in groups of 6 or more, so it is not idea for them either.

Snails or shrimp might be a better use of this tank. Or it can be used as a hospital tank when you need to treat a fish with chemicals.
I had this for about a week before returning it. The curvature makes it near impossible to see anything inside once filled with water. The LEDs are very weak and are borderline to even be enough light for very low light plants. It is not glass, it is thin plastic so it will eventually cloud up. At this price it could be useful as a hospital or quarantine for (very) small fish or for some non-fishkeeping project. I would certainly pass on it for use as a display tank.

I never heard of the 1 inch per a gallon rule, but the 5 gallon+ advice for a single Betta was something I did know about. This could explain why our beloved goldfish died when two more introduced into a tank of this size - even though I frequently changed the water. I appreciate the info friends, because I want to improve my skills. May be the next time we get a fish, I will get a larger tank.

I never really listened to the one inch per gallon rule and have always overstocked my tanks. Never had a problem but I always do frequent water changes. I've had 8 guppies and 4 Neons in one of my 3.5 Enchantments for about 2 years. They've always seemed happy but I'm not Aquaman so I can't be sure.https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/smile.gifhttps://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/smile.gif
Fish cannot speak like dogs and cats. Being alive and thriving is different. People in prison are alive and you are alive too but there is a difference. Get some awareness before getting pets or you consider them decoration.

The 1-gallon rule is for large aquarium life 30+ in general. it is not too expensive. If you are a hobbyist and like fishes then it is suggested buy the biggest you could afford and have space for.

One gallon per inch of fish (adult size) as a general guideline. So this shall be fine as a cubicle/desktop tank for an angel fish, or a couple of small and peaceful fishes like fancy guppies, platies, swordtails, or zebra fishes (though the latter could become lonely as zebra fishes prefer larger community).
angel fish are you ignorant.https://www.thatpetplace.com/arti...lfish-care Read before you recommend.

I know... Here comes a boat load of thumbs downs... But they are fish... We have a healthy 37 gallon tank and still lose fish randomly to bloat... If your kid wants a guarami and this is all you can afford... Put a damn guarami it in.
Do you think this much before eating that sandwich. Buy at least min 5 preferred 10 gallons.

Been waiting for the 5.5 to hit $20.00 again so I just grabbed another one. The 5.5 Topfin is actually pretty nice and it's really easy to cut bulk filter media to fit the filter.

Um, have you ever actually owned angelfish? I got some when they were nice and small, and with time and great food, they got to over 5 inches in diameter. You'd put a 5 inch long fish in a 3.5 gallon tank?!?

Um, have you ever actually owned guppies, platies or swordtails? If you've got a couple, then you're going to have a ton, unless you only get one gender. Then again, in this tiny tank, the parents may end up eating all their children.

And yeah, zebra danios should be kept in groups of at least 5, and preferably 7 or more. You shouldn't put that many in this tank.

Frankly, you shouldn't put much in this tank.

If money's tight, keep an eye on Craigslist. You can often find great deals on a whole aquarium setup pretty cheap. There are even people giving them away sometimes.

I've had many a betta over the years (Petco currently has 20% off all of theirs) and I have hundreds of fish. This tank is perfect for a betta especially if you can get the filter to cycle do frequent water changes if you can't pre-seed it (put some existing media in it).

I feel like people here want to suggest that Betta fish love to swim around and enjoy their surroundings but even in the wild, bettas do not. Moreover, the deformed current petstore betta whether it has the overly long veiltail or halfmoon or elephant ears have been so morphed by breeders to look beautiful with huge oversized fins that these fish can barely swim.

Bettas struggle with filters - this filter is weak - that's why it's a good choice. A filter strong enough for a 10 gallon tank like a marineland or aquaclear 10 is going to be hard on a betta, especially one with long flowing fins. I've killed betta with kindness by putting them in big tanks with big filters. My current betta is in a 3 gallon tank with anubias - it's fine - I change the water 2-3 times a week.

Betta need fresh, conditioned water more than they need large tanks - a betta fish would be happier in a one gallon bowl if your house were warm enough (betta fish need heaters more than filters) and you changed and conditioned the water every day than it would be in 10 gallon tank with a filter and very little water changes.

Finally got my buddy and his wife the 5.5 for their goldfish. They've had two for over 4 years in a 1 gallon bowl and they can barely turn around. Their cat pulled one out a few years ago and ate the tail which eventually grew back. I know they'd do better in a 100-500 gallon tank but they're going in the 5.5. Smilie

The 1" per gallon rule is basically garbage because it doesn't take two thing into account.

Two factors play into what's appropriate: how active/big the fish is (space for movement) and bioload (how much ammonia they produce.)

Bettas love to have a territory to patrol but since their bioload is technically low, they can be kept by beginners in small tanks without dying. It doesn't make it ok. Experienced fish keepers can overstock the bioload of a tank by making sure they have more filtration and that type of overstocking is totally fine as long as space requirements are met (think of big schools of very small fish in a decent size aquarium.)

The real issue is when beginners think that because a fish won't die, it's ok to ignore the space needed to move requirement. It's not the same as an experienced keeper overloading the bioload side. Some fish are really active and need lots of space. Some fish are lazy and don't. Please be considerate of the living animal you're agreeing to take care of and don't keep a betta in anything under a 5 gallon. For this price you can easily get that size or larger from Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. Or get this and stock with some of the realllly cool shrimp available!

Yes I have a 110 galon tank and have owned all of these mentioned fish, at least in some stage of the past.
