I remember when these first came out. They were $9.99 at Staples/OD/OM. I bought one which only lasted for a few times of use before the blade became really dull (its already dull to begin with) and cracked. Never understood all the hype and the marketing.

The first ones that came out were for right-handed users, and about a year or so ago they switched to an ambidextrous design. I own one of each purchased at the original $10 price. The first one did develop a chip in the middle of the blade when I hit a staple while cutting heavy cardboard—as will any ceramic knife hitting a hard object—but two years on it's serving me well for its intended use (opening packages).

Yes, and be sure to tell that to the person who inevitably grabs a handful of sharp edge. Throw your blades away in a container, folks, it's not hard. I've made them from empty deodorant containers before.

That would be a problem if these actually had a sharp edge. They're actually pretty dull. They're really just designed for things like cutting packing tape.

I just use a letter opener for envelopes and packages, works just as well, no sharp edges and cheaper than this
