I don't have a horse in the ATI vs Nvidia race, other than getting the best card for the money... that said the only way to get ATI to solve their driver problems is to let these cards rot in inventory until they take these issues seriously.
Have a 5700 and have not experienced any problems. Great card...amd has never let me down (happy owner since the ATI 9700 pro).
Cheap, but very lightweight and loud, cooler is not sufficient for this GPU, it gets hot and ramps up RPMs beyond average loud levels.

IME AMD cards are normally loud haha. I'm assuming you updated drivers, BIOS, fan curve, etc.. Did you remove the cooler and look at thermal pads or paste or anything?

I assumed the price drop was due to drivers and was considering this card, but if the cooling is insufficient - that's something I needed to know!

Thanks

True, I am tired of black screens and shutdowns with 5700 series. I have used a lot of these cards in different builds, mostly XFX, with good reliable 700-750W PSUs. Still some games cause complete shutdowns and in other cases other problems. Every time I switched to 2070 problems went away.

I tried a few 5700 flavors of these and they all left a bad taste in my mouth. Switched to 2070s and haven't looked back. Yes it cost more, but how much is your time worth? All of them ran 🔥 too. My 02

Agreed...Sapphire is probably best bet if choosing a 5700xt

Did you try to change the delay settings for the driver timeout? It's a registry setting and it stopped my XFX from crashing to the desktop or having the driver failed to load black screens.

Yeah, I solved the other problems, but trying to see how I can tweak the fans to make the card run cooler! If I can't get it to stop ramping up to 93 degrees under full load, I'm brining the thing back and looking for either the PowerColor Red Dragon or the Sapphire myself.

How are the AMD "fine wine" drivers these days? Still rotten?
