An alternative to the $799 256GB at Sam's Club. Anyone has any experiences with Walmart's protect plan? I'm leaning towards it because of the lower price, 3 yrs, and no deductible.

Optional protection plans:
1. $129 2yrs AppleCare+: Highly regarded with $49 deductible
2. $79 3yrs Walmart Protection Plan by Allstate: No deductible and covers:
- Accidents like drops, spills, and cracks
- Screen failure
- Battery failure

If you don't need a lot of space, it would seem this is a pretty good deal relatively speaking... especially since you can buy AppleCare+ since this is new. I guess my thing is that I don't know how much space iPadOS takes up. I'd personally rather pay more for more storage and not worry about it.

Swappa has prices for a bit lower, but they're used so you can't obviously buy AppleCare+ with it. From what little I've seen, iPads are super expensive to repair... so unfortunately, it almost seems best to just buy new with AppleCare+ (and maybe get a good case). I'm unsure if a screen protector is ideal, since I've seen varying reports about many screen protectors affecting the usability of the screen.. but I think the more expensive repairs of an iPad might be something like $400-600 or something without AppleCare+.

With taxes and shipping, I want to say that Sam's deal is just over $860. And you still should get a case, maybe an iPad Pencil 2 (not all Apple Pencils are compatible apparently, and I guess supposedly Apple might not honor the warranty if not bought from them directly), maybe a screen protector, maybe a keyboard, etc...probably would easily get around or over $1000 with all that.

edit - btw five percent cash back available on Walmart

New iPads will hopefully be announced next month so these should continue to drop.

No one knows when the new ones will release aside for Apple.

The only thing I'd bet on is that they drop sometime this year...whether that's a few weeks or end of year only Apple knows.

Everything Mac rumors and other sites say is March for a refresh with new cameras and then later in the year for a bigger update

Yes those are the rumors, but to me that seems highly unlikely. Apple has never updated an iPad twice in one year, and the iPad Pros haven't been updated even yearly, unlike the standard iPad 5/6/7 gen.

So I'm wondering if Apple would skip March and wait to update (possibly with 5G) at the end of the year. That just seems more likely to me, why would they do both...

It might be Huawei that is releasing some similar idea to iPad... I think it'll have 5G, but will lack the play store. Maybe called something like the MatePad, quite literally

About 5G, I imagine it would be wise not to jump on that wagon too soon. It might lack some better bands for certain networks... Or have other problems. Also, our infrastructure seems pretty slow for rolling out anything new, so maybe there won't even be 5G towers in your area for a while
