Stocking up for Corona virus

940 257 March 1, 2020 at 10:57 AM in Chat
Hey guys,

Is anyone stocking up on "survival items" in fear of the Corona virus? So far I haven't, but I see a lot of the supermarkets empty from people like that here. Are the fears warranted, should I do the same?

You'd have to hit up a Target or supermarket at opening the morning after they get a night shipment to restock tp, wipes, etc.

Really hard to find now.

Took 5 days of hunting simply to get tp.
Two weeks for wipes.
And that's before the ca statewide lockdown.

Can't find regular bleach yet.
(No, don't buy the splashless, etc - those are clearly Not certified or good for disinfection like regular bleach per label.)
the hussle is real. stay safe Peace

Crying... Down to my last five bars of the good stuff - Dial Bars with triclosan, not the new weak one with b.chloride.

While tricolsan can result in stronger bacterial strains, corona virus is like SARS - nuked like bleach under a mere 0.05% concentration.

Gotta find some more stock soon along with Listerine...

Multiple bottles of brand name disinfectant, soap, paper towels, and Kleenex, were on the shelf at one major store yesterday. Hopefully the hoarders have sunk themselves sufficiently into debt by now. Due to theft they now keep sanitizer behind the counter.

Supermarket said there's plenty of stock but they can't order more. The high demand left truckers unable to keep up with shipments. It's not a supply problem. It's greedy panicky people.

It's pathetic when they need to keep sanitizer locked up laugh out loud

Some people turn the search into a mercenary mission... Meanwhile, in Seattle, many supplies were available at Target.

TP on the shelf, disinfectant wipes, eggs, milk, bread, etc...

I went to Walmart this morning, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and wipes were available. Limit 1

People are still over buying groceries , a lot of empty spots.

Didn't the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan not only get many infected like a #covid19 petri dish, but remained contaminated with #coronavirus for 17 days afterwards?

https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/03/23/cdc-coronavirus-survived-in-princess-cruise-cabins-up-to-17-days-after-passengers-left.html

Better wipe down / wash anything possibly contaminated - CASH, coins, keys, car surfaces, etc.

I haven't used any toilet paper in about a week. I work from home and just use the shower. Specifically a walk in tub with a high mounted nozzle actually works perfectly as a bidet. Using an actual shower would have more water going everywhere and be less convenient.

I'll have to try Target next then, I'm down to one egg, and the other two stores I've been to haven't had any. Maybe they'll have spaghetti sauce too.

Isopropyl alcohol and Walmart. Went in to fill a prescription today and asked them when was the last time they had a delivery of isopropyl alcohol and they said not since they had the initial run on the shelves.

Isn't Walmart one of the biggest retailers of this?

Is it all being diverted to hospitals at this point? Just wondering where it is going.

Unless you're spraying the whole shower with isopropyl or something aftewrards isn't that getting feces and the accompanying very dangerous bacteria all over the shower? At the very least on the floor of the shower? Whether you sit or stand in the shower this seems like a very bad idea.

Everyone, we need to thank China for giving us this wonderful time in history. It is all thanks to them.

You also have to spend extra time cleaning between your toes after you waffle-stomp the turds down the drain.

I know you're never, ever supposed to use a plunger that has seen a toilet to unclog a sink as it can lead to fecal bacteria living in the sink... So all this poop-where-poop-don't-belong-talk seems like asking for trouble.

Not really. Only about 712 of 3618 [statista.com]passengers/crew (567/145) got it and 10 died, none under 70 years of age. Up to 410 had ZERO symptoms.

This site [wattsupwiththat.com] has some interesting graphs showing how many were asymptomatic by age, etc. It's very interesting data on a case where it probably presented the absolute best "petri dish" to circulate the disease, yet only like 17% got it, half were asymptomatic, despite the overwhelmingly "old" characteristics of the "population" (hint: FAR older than the US at large, check out that bar chart!)

(shaded areas are DP, hashed are US)

And btw it's important to distinguish:

This story was updated to reflect that SARS-CoV-2 RNA, not live virus, was identified on surfaces in cruise ship cabins up to 17 days after cabins were vacated on the Diamond Princess.

Meaning that doesn't mean you could have gotten infected after 17 days.
