It looks like AT&T may be starting a new promotion for the start of the month. I just went to my account to see what is offered since my 100mbps fiber plan is about up. Only 100mbps($45/mo) and 1000mbps($39.99/mo) is offered, no 300mbps is offered, but it was available a day ago for $40, and I saw an ad for it on TV today. If you have AT&T internet, check the plans offered in your account dashboard. There is no mention of equipment charges, but this is for a bundle. Southern states.

AT&T Internet 1000
Includes unlimited internet data$59.99
$20 off for 12 months with bundle-$20.00

Internet subtotal
$39.99

Did you get your service before they started charging for equipment? They weren't charging for installation or equipment rental a few years back when I first looked into getting service back when it was $100/month for the promo price. Now, they seem to charge for both the installation and equipment. Maybe you're grandfathered in or your account was never switched over when they started charging the fee. I just ordered service as a new customer and a $10/month equipment fee was there in the order summary.

Yep, someone has to come and install (run the wires and setup the service) and it's $99 installation fee. They give you the option of $99 added to the first month bill or $33 to each of the first 3 months bill.
Call and they should be able to waive the fee

Fiber is a synchronous connection, so upload speeds are the same as download speeds.

I figured as much, but shouldn't they say that on the site? I get that people tend to be more concerned about download speeds.

I tried looking on the site, but I don't see anything about the upload speed for the fiber. Does anyone know what it is? I also see stuff on there about equipment fees and wifi controller for devices and such. Would you be able to ignore that and use your own modem?
The real advantage of Fiber over Coax is its synchronous speed (Both Down and Up speed are the same): 300Mbps/300Mbps or 1Gbps/1Gbps.

Hmm, I haven't placed the order yet but I went through an installation fee page and it read no charge at $0? And also this deal you have to get some type of bundle right? I currently have DirecTV with uverse. Wish I could get this deal with Att internet only. DirecTVs prices are ridiculous
If you already have service with them then they'd just do it on their end and there wouldn't be anything for them to come install at your residence. Could be the reason why. I'm ordering new service so someone will have to come out to run the cables and setup the boxes. I only ordered the Fiber 1000 internet and it came out to $59.99/month ($49.99 service+$10 equipment rental) plus the $99 installation fee. I could not get the $39.99 service price promo OP talked about so I don't know if it was a bundle price of some kind as I don't have any other service ATT sells.

Yeah, I started my service in August 2018. They already had fiber and everything set. No install or equipment fee when I signed up. I'm worried if I switch to this plan, I'll start getting charged for equipment. 100Mbps down is fine for me, but the thing that irks me is the data cap. If there isn't a monthly equipment fee, I'll be on board.
My area got ATT Fiber back in 2016 and we were tempted but it was too expensive back then. $100/month was the promo price for their Fiber 1000 plan with no data cap but there was no equipment rental cost and they didn't charge for installation. Even with the installation cost and equipment fee, it's still a fair bit cheaper now though.

I wouldn't be able to make a data cap work. 1 TB is just too small for a household of 4 that consume streaming video. Some months we're below 1 TB but most months we're above. When it's below, it's around 900-ish GB and when it's above it comes pretty close to 2TB so we definitely wouldn't want a data cap. We have Spectrum now with no data cap and we stuck with them as long as we did because of the no data cap and ATT's cheapest plan without a cap was always near $100. Since Spectrum just raised their prices and ATT has this promo, it's probably a good time to switch.

Yeah, seriously. I'd give a kidney to have ANY other decent options than Spectrum in my area. I cringe every time I have to give them another dollar. No AT&T, no VZ FiOS, no Fiber, just the Spectrum monopoly that's existed by one name or another for 30 years.
Here's the really odd thing, when Spectrum had no competition in my area, they were fairly reasonable. $35/month for 70/5. As soon as ATT fiber came to my area and around the same time they changed names from TWC to Spectrum, prices gradually inched up to $50/month for 100/10.

It is a surprised sale pitch to a potential customer.

For those who have trouble finding this deal, you need go to manage plan and change service (see my screenshots).

You can just change with web site, no need to call, took me 1 minute to change.

As you can see from the screenshot I've been paying $70 for Internet 100 but was able to upgrade to Internet 1000 with $20 lower price. This is not $40 deal OP posted but hey I will take it

Thanks OP! Repped!!
Hi How can you buy the service without the $10 equip fee?

I went to look at this and passed.
Currently I have..
AT&T Internet 1000$99.00
GigaPower Intro Price $29 off for Life of offer-$29.00
Additional charges
AT&T Internet Equipment Fee$7.00Ongoing Internet wireless gateway fee waiver-$7.00$
Internet subtotal$70.00

My bill is exactly $70 for life it looks like. I'm afraid switching to an into offer will jump in 12 months.
I'll have to check mine. I thought I had a similar grandfathered deal but my bill just went up to $100/mo.

The name change was the key there. My service at 120u/12d has been relatively unchanged speed-wise but price has gone up twice since Spectrum took over, and customer service is down the tubes. But yeah, Spectrum didn't seem to react to the competition. There's literally nothing else around here except CenturyLink which is abysmal. Once a decent alternative rolls in, Spectrum will lose half their customers in my city of 140,000. I pay $70/month right now for their 'standard service'.

I guess it make sense, I'd heard that Charter was horrible from people who had them. I guess they had to pay for their purchase of TWC somehow. When they decided to buy TWC and rebrand, I thought they'd actually try since ATT Fiber was in my region and expanding into my neighborhood at about the same time. Spectrum in my area is going to lose a lot of customers to ATT if they don't change. I've seen a lot of ATT install trucks and far less Spectrum trucks now.

ATT's broadband roll out has been a joke. Most of their customers can at best get 75 MB. They screwed up satellite. They screwed up streaming. They screwed up HBO. They screwed up broadband. Best thing shareholders can do is fire the entire executive team, although they can't because although corporations claim they are responsible to shareholders, it's only when it comes to the peon employees.

I couldn't replicate the deal for $39.99, probably because I do not have TV or wireless service with AT&T. However, I was able to upgrade from my 300Mbps plan to the 1000Mbps for $49.99 ($0.01 less than my current plan).

Thanks OP! Anyone know the next step? Will they need to swap out the modem?
Next step is to monitor any surprised bill shock. I also saved all order confirmations and promo in cart before I checked out.
