It looks like AT&T may be starting a new promotion for the start of the month. I just went to my account to see what is offered since my 100mbps fiber plan is about up. Only 100mbps($45/mo) and 1000mbps($39.99/mo) is offered, no 300mbps is offered, but it was available a day ago for $40, and I saw an ad for it on TV today. If you have AT&T internet, check the plans offered in your account dashboard. There is no mention of equipment charges, but this is for a bundle. Southern states.

AT&T Internet 1000
Includes unlimited internet data$59.99
$20 off for 12 months with bundle-$20.00

Internet subtotal
$39.99

Doesn't seem YMMV for existing customers upgrading internet-only service online. I've yet to see a report from someone who didn't have an equipment fee and does now.
You may be able to avoid it if you have a current modem but if not highly unlikely. I work for att so y'all thumbing me down you're trippin lol.

I just noticed a change to my account that wasn't there a week ago. I'm a new customer, just signed up in March and previously couldn't get them to give me the equipment waiver through phone cs even though I pointed out their website said free equipment for a year and their response was that it doesn't apply to the plan I bought and only meant for plans below mine.

Before, the only discount on my account was the $20 off (making the fiber 1000 $49.99/month) but now there's a second discount that waives the equipment fee. I'm not sure if my previous complaints to them actually/finally reached someone and went through or they're just giving those credits out because they F'ed up on the wording of their promo or some other reason. What's weird is my first bill has already been issued and paid but I still have 12 of 12 months left for both credits. I would have thought that would have been 11 of 12 now. I rechecked my first bill and the $20 was applied but the $10 wasn't so I know this is definitely a recent addition to my account.

Unable to switch but made a new account for a new apartment I'm going into.

Was $49.99 for 12/months (1000/1000)

Website said equipment fee was waived and $100 rewards but of course website didn't work so I tried over the phone when I ordered and it didn't include it.

Anybody have any luck getting those after the fact?

Also their online chat isn't working

Question about a NEW install.

I don't really want them running new wiring through the attic, etc.

Can they use an existing ethernet/cat5e (I think) cable from the exterior (where fiber comes to house) to where my modem will be in a closet? (or will they want to run all new cabling?)

Mine was prorated for a few days and still shows 12 of 12. However, it also shows the promo ending exactly one year after the install date so I expect the last few days of the year will be prorated at the non-discount level.

The hurdle for your needs will be that ONT box, it's what translates the fiber signal to Ethernet. The ONT box will need to be indoors (it's not weatherproof) and be near a power outlet. Google image search for "att ont box" and you'll get an idea of what it looks like. Older installs had a cover plate to hide the ports on the bottom but mine (and I suspect newer installs) don't have that ports cover.

My bill wasn't prorated, contained an entire month. My install date was March 5th and the bill was for March 5 to April 4.

Crazy how these folks can keep rolling door to door when we can't/ wouldn't even go into the neighbor's house unless there was an emergency

Was able to just log in my internet account and change plan. I had Internet 300 for $50, but the Internet 1000 was $49.99...

Internet 1000 initial cost is $69.99
$20.00/month savings for 12 months
No equipment fee for existing accounts
Standalone cost, no bundle
Total - $49.99+taxes

Talked to a rep while doing the plan change and he did confirm no equipment fee and no contract as my current contract ends in May of 2020.

AT&T install process is terrible. The first technician came last week but left since he needed a third party to run fiber across the street. I asked him for fiber cable, and I ran it from outside wall, through the crawlspace, and up into my closet, where modem, router, switch located. Today the third-party came but left with nothing done since they needed the city to lay mark for cable/pipe. Another technician also came today but left since fiber from across the street was not ready. He said the system showed him it is ready but guess not.

they said they will come back this Thur or Fri. The technician called before his arrival and asked if my family travel anywhere the last 2 weeks.

Kind of surprised they're actually still doing installs. Since an installer is probably going to multiple houses per day, that's a really good way to spread it and not know having done it. I would turn them away unless they showed up with PPE and also showed that they were self aware while there. Pretty glad I got mine done beginning of March instead of waiting.
