It looks like AT&T may be starting a new promotion for the start of the month. I just went to my account to see what is offered since my 100mbps fiber plan is about up. Only 100mbps($45/mo) and 1000mbps($39.99/mo) is offered, no 300mbps is offered, but it was available a day ago for $40, and I saw an ad for it on TV today. If you have AT&T internet, check the plans offered in your account dashboard. There is no mention of equipment charges, but this is for a bundle. Southern states.

AT&T Internet 1000
Includes unlimited internet data$59.99
$20 off for 12 months with bundle-$20.00

Check your gateway model number. There are only two gateways for AT&T fiber, the Pace 5268AC and Arris BGW-210-700. Both are capable of gigabit speed.

Kind of surprised they're actually still doing installs. Since an installer is probably going to multiple houses per day, that's a really good way to spread it and not know having done it. I would turn them away unless they showed up with PPE and also showed that they were self aware while there. Pretty glad I got mine done beginning of March instead of waiting.
I mean ISPs in the United States are awful even in comparison to most other huge corporations. So I'm not surprised that they are ignoring public safety, more installs=more money afterall. Also ISPs have so many resources and so much power, they can get politicians to do just about anything if they bribe or threaten them a little bit so they'll never get in trouble.

Just called and cancelled my service with Spectrum and they didn't even bother to send me to retention, just processed the cancellation right away without any effort. Been a customer since 2010. The CS guy obviously asked why I was canceling and I told him, that AT&T was giving me their Fiber 1000 service for less than what I pay Spectrum for way slower speed. He said he understood and just processed the cancellation.

If you can get faster speeds at a better price, probably shouldn't bother staying with Spectrum even if you're happy with them. You staying with them is just going to make them not bother to do better.
I fall into this camp. Less than a week ago, Spectrum tried to raise our 100 Mbps plan to $70. I called and threatened to cancel and it went down to $50. I'm happy with Spectrum's 100 MBps plan and would not benefit at all from the jump to AT&T's 1000MBps, which it says online would also be $50 for our address. We have a few iPhones, a few iPads, and a few streaming sticks that are just 1080p. No 4k and no movie downloading so we don't get anywhere close to even 100 MBps, ever.

It WOULD be nice, for the purposes of satisfying my OCD, to get a download number higher than 117 Mbps when I do a speed test. But that's really all that would improve for us. The only two things stopping me from switching and/or joining the cause of motivating Spectrum to do better are:

1) As the last few posters have alluded to, the possibility that the installer has COVID-19
2) As some of you married men might know, we would have to clean since the installer would need in our house

We were paying Spectrum $55 (after taxes) for their 50 Mbps down 5 Mbps up service and what finally made the decision for us was they were going to up that to $65 starting in March. We have 5 users and dozens of devices and with our old Spectrum service, it was pretty obvious when we were all online as streams would buffer frequently and downloading anything wasn't practical.

The faster speeds of fiber comes in handy but isn't really necessary most of the time. It's one of those nice luxuries. It reminds me of when we went from dial up to broadband decades ago. I'm still getting used to clicking download on a 1 GB file and the file is already sitting on my computer a couple seconds later vs before when it'll take minutes. The upload is probably what I appreciate the most. Uploading files to a storage server is more of an instant thing now vs something to queue for the background.

The virus contact concerns are valid. I doubt this would be the last chance for such a discount and the discounts will be just as good or better when all this blows over.

To summarize:
1) We have a social responsibility to try to get the internet providers to do better. I agree.
2) We also have a social responsibility to try to prevent the spread of COVID-19

Right now #2 feels like the overriding one in the event of a conflict.

I'm a current 1000 subscriber with a $100-$30=$70 discount ending in 2 months. The ATT rep was unable to give me this $49.99 promo as an existing 1000 user, said only for new customers or ones that are upgrading plans. She said to try back in May when my current promo ends and they'll see what's available. In case anyone in my position was curious...

1.ask them to downgrade your internet to 100/300 mb

2. wait for 1 or 2 days

3. log in your account then you can update to 1000 at $49.99

The third party came today and lay the fiber across the street to the outside wall. I told them I have sprinkler system. I measured how deep the fiber was buried, and it is about 3 inches deep.

is it too shallow? could grass yearly aerator punch through the fiber cable?

I have a plug aerator that easily pulls out 3 and 4 inch plugs, and is sharp enough to cut or damage a fiber cable if it's like what's hanging across my yard. I like that it's so small it's hardly visible. Is there not a protective sheathing over it or is it just the light(no pun intended)weight wire about 1/4 inch thick?
