It looks like AT&T may be starting a new promotion for the start of the month. I just went to my account to see what is offered since my 100mbps fiber plan is about up. Only 100mbps($45/mo) and 1000mbps($39.99/mo) is offered, no 300mbps is offered, but it was available a day ago for $40, and I saw an ad for it on TV today. If you have AT&T internet, check the plans offered in your account dashboard. There is no mention of equipment charges, but this is for a bundle. Southern states.

AT&T Internet 1000
Includes unlimited internet data$59.99
$20 off for 12 months with bundle-$20.00

Internet subtotal
$39.99

just got installed today. using my Asus router with passthrough setting, I got this speed

speedtest.net using AT&T server in Charlotte, NC
download/upload: 625Mbps/142Mbps (pick different server got better upload)

Fast.com (by Netfix)
download/upload: 850-930Mbps/780Mbps

speedtest.att.com
download/upload: 916Mbps/960Mbps

what speedtest did you use and what download/upload speed you get?

Was anyone concerned allowing the technician in your home during COVID-19? I really want this 1000/1000 fiber as isn't the deal ending this month?

I had the same concern but went ahead anyway. I gave the technician a sanitize bottle everytime he came. AT&T made a few attempts . A second technician called prior his arrival and asked if my family have traveled somewhere.

can't you do the install yourself, do you need to have someone come out if you've never had their service before?

I never have fiber before. AT&T had to run fiber across the street and into my closet. They installed ONT (optical Network Terminal). After that everything is plug and play.

once you have the service, You don't need AT&T to install again.

When the technician completed the installation, I measured the speed using speedtest.net. I got very slow speed, 650Mbps download and 150Mbps upload. I even asked him to swap a different router.

after he left, I used Netflix Fast.com to measure the speed and got around 860Mpps. Using AT&T speedtest from their Router, which measures from AT&T server to their Router only (excluding my Router and devices), I got consistently 960Mbps/930Mbps.

I think speedtest.net numbers heavily depend on the remote servers. You would get different numbers for different selected serverS.

It is ending March 31; however, AT&T just announced their $15 a month for 2GB plan what, yesterday? COVID-19 is going to get worse, the economy is going to get worse, and the companies are going to get more desperate for business. All opportunities to get cheap internet are not going to go away March 31.

I feel like this is a stupid question, but:

A co-worker has AT&T fiber in the area and I'm moving into the same area. The co-worker was told by AT&T that they VPN-ing into work is blocked with AT&T residential internet. The co-worker says they've tried and indeed they can't access work from home.

Anyone else have this issue?

My wife works from home/remotely 2-3 days a week, so this would be a big issue for us.
Not true. I VPN all day for work with my AT&T fiber, no issues
