I googled the model number STHP5000600, but mostly it came back with the model STHP5000100. Are they the same except this is a newer model?
Anyways this one is good right, costco always got good stuff. How many years can I expect out of this one? Usually I burn movies to discs, but this might be easier.
With this work well with the fire TV recast it would be lot of recording and erasing of movies ?
In another thread they said the 8 TB $119 Seagate would not perform these tasks well
because is was a smr drive. A PMR drive I guess is better for lots of rewriting, does anyone know which type drive this is?
SMR: Shingled Magnetic Recording
This type of drive overlaps recording tracks to store data at a lower cost than PMR technology. The downside occurs when data is deleted and that space is reused. If existing data overlaps the space you want to reuse, this can mean delays in writing the new data. These drives are great for archive storage (write once, read many) use cases, but if your files turn over with some regularity, stick with PMR drives.
does it require costco membership to order online?
I was able to order it without a current membership. I bought a membership many years ago to get a deal on a TV but never used it after that and it expired 12 months later. I still have an account that I was able to log into but I don't have a membership.
