I was able to return my Gram 17 2019 model to Costco before my 90 days and purchased the 2020 model. My primary reason was the improved, wider keyboard with regular number pad. I found the 2019 a bit cramped (backspace in particular I'd miss) and the condensed number pad annoying even though I originally thought I would live with it. The improved processor and integrated graphics are a plus as well. I have been using the new model for a few days now and ran a few tests as well. Here are my comments:

The screen is the biggest selling point to me. I like the larger size, great color/contrast and brightness. The real-estate is great for photo editing. The glare does not bother me and the brightness has been more than plenty. It is a huge improvement over a Lenovo Flex 15 I tried out. I also had a Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED 4K laptop to compare to and the LG Gram 17 was my favorite. The OLED screen had an uneven brightness vertical band on the right side and I was always aware of possible burn in. Side by side, the colors and contrast were not noticeably different even though everyone raves about OLED screens being so superior. I much prefer the larger 17" and 16 x 10 ratio and not having to worry about possible burn in.
The chassis on the 2020 model does seem a little firmer than the 2019. They redesigned the monitor hinge and it seems sturdier.
The touchpad is the same. I really like it. Yes, it does depress a bit as some video reviewers point out, but it's not a big deal to me.
Battery life is excellent and I have not had any issues with drain while the computer sleeps. I often just close the screen in the evening, leaving it on battery only and when I return in the morning, the charge status has no significant change. I haven't written down the numbers, but I recall leaving it around 80% at night and coming back in the morning and it being near that.
I really like how quiet both generations Gram 17s CPU fans are. The Aero 15 was annoyingly loud, even at idle or low usage. The fans had a higher pitch that I could not stand.
Heat has not been an issue for me. It does get warm more so in the center, rear near the monitor since that is where the processor is. I use the laptop on my lap a lot and it is not uncomfortably warm.

Here are several test results I have:

Novabench:

2019

2020

You'll see improvements across the board for the i7-1065G7.

PugetBench v0.8 BETA for Photoshop

2019

2020

You will see that the i7-8565U actually performed some of the tasks better than the i7-1065G7.

In real world use, so far I have not noticed a significant difference in power between the two. I haven't tried games yet, possibly later. I tried some on the 2019 and it didn't work well as expected.

To conclude, I am very impressed with the LG Gram 17. This is my favorite laptop I have used.

I have seen that issue with other Windows 10 laptops. I think sometimes it is not going into hibernate mode.
I have the same problem on a W10 desktop I built. In the middle of the night, the machine will power up because of a scheduled task. It will not go back to sleep even though the power management is set properly. I tried "Shutdown Monster." It worked intermediately. I installed "Shutter [den4b.com]," the lite version, yesterday and it works. I used the portable version. Just download the ZIP file, unzip it to a folder you like and run it as administrator.

I tried the 2019 one and I thought it was okay overall. I wasn't as bother by what you have mentioned. But I'm a Mac users and it's a different workflow for sure. I love how you get 17 and you can expand on it. I also really want to get the MacBook Pro 16 but we are looking at about $800-900 more and that's not a small difference....
If you're editing large catalogs of RAW files in Lightroom or doing video editing, you probably need the dedicated GPU and color calibrated display of the Macbook Pro 16. If you're risk adverse, Apple is a safer bet, especially the 16 inch. This LG Gram has a highly flexible keyboard, flimsy flexible case and loose bouncy screen hinges. And that's on top of the severe thermal throttling issues. Down the road, a Macbook has significant resale value. It's fair to assume that any LG laptop will be next to worthless in a few years. The best reason to buy this is the 90 day return policy at Costco. Try it. Just keep in mind that this Windows 10 Home LG won't have Bitlocker, so your personal data may possibly remain recoverable to the next user, or 3rd party refurbisher,if you return it. Not a good idea for work or personal accounting use. It's shameful that a PC as expensive as this doesn't come with Windows 10 Pro.

If you do a full reset, not a fast wipe, it should delete most data

fingers crossed lol

Generally speaking, you should disable "Hybrid Sleep" on a Windows 10 computer as it combines Hibernation and Sleep and causes issues. Hibernation itself has always been a problematic feature and only made sense when RAM was still very limited compared to today. Sleep mode is preferable.

no touch screen?
May I ask what you do with a touch screen on a laptop? My last laptop was a Dell XPS and the previous laptop was an HP Spectre 360 and both had touchscreens so I've had a laptop with touchscreens for about 5 years.. I only used them to play around a bit for a few minutes but never found any need for them on a laptop that's 2 feet in front of me... I currently have the LG Gram 17 without a touchscreen and I just love this thing.. so light and I love the small form factor. Just wondering what everyone does with a touchscreen laptop.

I dropped by the computer section to check the LG Gram 17. I had a 2019 XPS 15 for work and currently using MSI GS65 for gaming, both of which are light, portable, and have thin bezels. I lifted the LG Gram 17 and woooooow I'm very impressed how light it is! It's so light it doesn't feel like a laptop and thought it's just one of those fake empty display items! The keyboard wasn't bad either! My only gripe is the glossy screen, though that's just my personal preference as I've never liked glare and reflection.
Yes, the glossy screen really sux on this laptop.. I had to buy a matte screen protector and apply it to the laptop... I couldn't get all of the air bubbles out, unfortunately, but I'm actually OK with it b/c the matte screen makes this laptop the perfect laptop I've ever owned, IMO (I'm not a gamer.)

touchscreen is great if u want to surf website, watch youtube...etc. It's much faster than using the mouse, especially in bed Stick Out Tongue

for those that want LG gram touchscreen, get the 15.6" with i7. Unfortunately it's not on sale.

What brand matte protector did you use? Did it worsen screen quality in terms of color?

Link to the matte screen protector please

Also - did anyone get a keyboard cover, those silicone ones? It would dampen the noise a little bit on the keyboard when typing which would be make it an even better keyboard, I ordered one off Amazon [amazon.com] despite it stating it fits the Gram 17 17Z90N model - it only fits the smaller 2019 LG Gram version keyboard.

I for one would prefer to have no keypad. The off center keyboard is weird for me.
Same here. I also wish they have dedicated home and end key. No big deal, can always remap scroll lock and print screen key to home and end.

I didn't notice any changes with the screen quality.. but I also don't use my laptop in bright places like outdoors. I just use it at home and I don't have any complaints about it. The reviews for this screen protector isn't all that great but most of them are complaining about the fact that they couldn't get all of the air bubbles out.. I, too, had this problem but it's only noticeable when the screen is off so I'm ok with it. If you're OCD about this then I'd skip this laptop if you really want a matte screen from the factory.

FYI: My laptop is the 2019 model.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS update from LG:

https://www.lg.com/us/support/sof...re-drivers
The Costco version has the model number 17Z90N-R.AAC8U1, and I couldn't find a BIOS update for this version on the link above. The laptop ships with a BIOS dated 12/6/2019. Do you have the link for a newer BIOS?

please note that the 2020 17" lg gram keyboard layout has changed. It now have extra row in numeric keypad and one of the shift/return? key is bigger. It's different from the 2019 model.

Try this:
https://www.lg.com/us/support/sof...re-drivers

You may have to type "LG Gram 17" in the search box, but its there. Latest is:
