For those looking for more stable, durable, and large square footage matting, you should seriously consider stall mats from Tractor Supply stores. I used to work facilities running large scale University fitness centers and have seen many flooring types. Stall mats are a great and durable alternative for a home gym setup at a decent price. These tile style mats are ok for certain people/applications but they still have a lot of edges to collect grime and will not be as durable as a good ol stall mat.

It probably depends on the application. I just picked up a horse stall mat from Tractor Supply for around $40 and it's incredibly dense. Feels and smells like a big sheet of tire. I will be using mine on a weight lifting platform to dampen the sound of my weights dropping and to protect the floor. So if you're wanting something to cushion your barbell/weights, I'd go with a horse stall mat. If you just want something cushy to do general stuff, the foam is probably fine.

Be very careful on your usage of these as they can be slippery on concrete. We had them in the garage as a runner on the side. Kids came in wet from swimming and the pads will slip out from under your feet. Might want to put a no slip carpet mat underneath these. Plus side it's a lot more comfortable on the feet when you're working on them for hours.

Check and see if the harbor freight variety is to your liking. They're like $8?

we got the 1/2" thick variety for $9.99/24sqft last year from walmart. Use them mostly to cushion underneath rugs on tile and wood floors for the baby to play on. Also use them in the garage to lay on when working on the cars.

If you get any amount of water between them and tile, they are extremely dangerous and will slide out from under you.

How did you keep liquid from passing through the seams?

Great question. I'm hoping to hear about the material and outgassing. I'm aiming to do the same for my kiddos

I know everyone does not have one, but HarborFreight has these for less every day of the week.

32 square feet for $13.98

No fun colors (just battleship grey) but cheap, and if you need more a year from now, you know they will still mate together.

Anyone have any suggestions on hot glue types or methods to keep the edge pieces from flipping/ripping off? I don't have any issues with the main tiles, but the edge pieces don't ever seem to stay.

Costco sells these. Theirs is .79 inches and covers 48 feet for $50. So is the Costco covering a little thicker?

3/4" is too thin for me. The floor can be felt through the mat. But seems to be a good deal.
Not an issue for anyone under 400lbs
