EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 BLACK GAMING Video Card, Single Fan - $184 AC @Newegg

These were $179.50 last December with a $20 rebate, now $184 without rebate.

The GTX 1660 is handicapped by low memory bandwidth at stock settings, 10-15% worse performance than the 1660 Super or Ti. It can benefit quite a bit more from overclocking, however, closing that gap to 5-10% (compared to an overclocked Super/Ti).

For someone on an extremely shoestring budget, especially if I want to use it for 3+ years, is this worth getting over a Ti/Super or the 1650 Super?

You could look for a deal on the GTX 1060.

IMO it's worth it over a 1650 Super if it's only $24 more. The extra 2GB of memory will make a difference down the line. At $184 this delivers quite a bit more performance/dollar than the 1660 Super/Ti.

the 1650s is a 1080p card, if anything you'll be choked on raw gpu power before vram.
$184 is definitely a fair price for this card though.

A caveat about these single fan cards. They tend to run hotter and noisier than cards with multiple fans but are typically at the bottom end of the price range for the chip like this one.

They are great if your case is constrained in length dimension of the card. Otherwise look for a multiple fan card, especially if you are going to overclock them or plan to run it at full load frequently.

EVGA's cooling solution on this card seems pretty effective [anandtech.com]. In this review [legitreviews.com] this card was measured at 65C with the fan at 60% while gaming. These cards have a relatively low power limit anyway; overclocking in this case is mostly just setting the memory clock higher.

Compare it to an EVGA card with the same chip and multiple fans which was my point. You can play around with the fan curve of course and EVGA tunes it depending on the cooling design which is always a compromise for any card. Granted that the differences between fan configurations become more significant as you go up the performance chain.

This one is durable as it can be, never sags, bends or anything else. Love it even though it takes 2 and 2/3 of the slot space, makes problems for some short micro ATX boards. But it is very cool and quiet.

Thank you. It's always the VRAM I'm concerned about, after price/perf

The page says price is $229.99 and promo code VGAPCJA263 won't work. Is this now dead? 😢
