This Monolith subwoofer amplifier has an extraordinarily high power output of 500 watts RMS (900 watts peak), which can deliver massive amounts of power when needed. Each Class D amplifier is built around a Texas Instruments 48-bit data path (with 28-bit filter coefficients) DSP engine, allowing virtually unlimited design flexibility with the assurance of no signal degradation.

So tempted, but I am worried that I'll be disappointed with sealed subs for my dedicated theater room. Returning these if I don't like them won't exactly be easy since I don't believe Monoprice pays for return shipping and the 12" are like 70lbs each shipping weight.

I'm in the same boat, very tempted. Currently have dual PB-2000s, and not sure the sealed 15s would be a massive step up for HT.

Yeah, I did a bit of research and decided to hold out for a sale on the ported. My PB12-NSD will be fine until then.

I'm actually looking at the THX-365C center channel speaker, but the same concern regarding returning the speaker if it didn't work out.

I'm worried about this too. I've got dual SVS SB-2000s (12" sealed) right now and am not impressed in my large space. These are 15"s and THX certified meaning they can hit higher output levels. I was thinking I'd need to go to dual ported 15" but the deal on this monoprice sealed really has me tempted....

There's just not a ton of professional reviews (Ex: audioholics) on the monoprice sealed line for us to read up on yet...

EDIT:

Actually here's a nicely written review from AVSForum's Jim Wilson:

I think I'm in for 2x of these bad boys :-)

How large of a space are you talking? I just picked up an SVS SB 2000 and hope it fills my 25x14 sized room well. I had heard great things about it.

Price is good but I just noticed that 2 x 12" subwoofers are needed to meet THX Select certification. I own a 12" ported Monolith, one of these is THX Certified Ultra. Looking for a subwoofer for my basement, will wait for the ported subwoofers to go on sale.

My living room is about 2000 cu ft, but it attaches in an open layout to another 1000 cu ft den and 2000 cu ft kitchen/dining area, so all in all from a bass perspective its close to 5000 cu ft.

I should also add, it wasn't just an output/volume thing. I was expecting it to dig much deeper and it rolled off pretty quick around the mid 20 hz's. It was definitely clean and tight though vs. my old Polk PSW505 12", but this monoprice 15 looks like its got some good output sub 20hz even.

My wife didn't like me buying the ported 10 inch...I wonder if she would notice a sealed 15 inch in its place?

Ahh. Really large space(s). I think I'm good! Haven't fired it up yet, and do have some relatively open stairs to contend with, but I think I'll be fine. Thx.

Large sealed subs and are accurate and can extend low.

How do these hold up against HSUs in similar price range?

Their sealed Monolith subs aren't selling very well, which is why they keep offering discounts. But they haven't offered the same deep discounts for their Monolith ported versions in quite a while. I own the 10", 12" and 15" ported Monolith subs and find the ability to add or remove the port plugs (which are included) substantially increases their versatility. Once set up, I generally leave them out for movies and in for music.

While monoprice is focused on unloading their surplus of sealed Monoliths, give them a call and ask if they have any discount codes for the ported versions. Even better, ask for a manager and ask if they can price match the sealed for the ported version. Believe me... they would still be making an enormous profit! If they get enough calls, they might get the hint.

Agreed, one of the biggest selling points of a sealed sub vs a ported sub is the size. Yet in the monoprice line the sealed subs are only a little bit smaller than the ported ones. And none are in the nice small cube size. Then again, they actually have THX ultra certification on a sealed sub which is pretty much unheard of... To get that much output out of a sealed design is truly an achievement (and of course the larger cabinet size is part of that equation).
