I don't understand how Sprint just lets you avoid the credit check and yet it's apparently not pre-paid. Strange that the customer just gets to choose if they want a credit check. Why would anyone do a credit check? Maybe sometimes that's the only way to get approved?

With network data, Sprint know where Aggromonkey live and can catch him, if he no pay. laugh out loud

Just kidding, the reason that people are steered to credit check account is that allows Sprint to lease them expensive phones. Leasing is far more lucrative than outright sale of devices or BYOD. The marginal cost of having someone on their network is close to nil. The profits come from leasing, insurance, other services, etc., which are more attractive to buy on credit.

There are two possible reasons for why the $300 GC is not mentioned in the order confirmation for my 3rd line:
1. Because the order was placed over the phone and that process doesn't know about the $300 GC offer. When I asked the rep if adding a line qualifies, he didn't know anything about that offer. I had to give him the offer code 300BYOD313 before he found it. He told me that adding a line qualifies, but we all know that what a rep says doesn't hold much water.
2. Because the offer requires one to be a NEW CUSTOMER, and technically when you add a line to an existing account you're not a new customer.

Based on what aznshorty said (even his over-the-phone order for his 1st line did not mention the $300 GC offer), I think #1 is the likely reason.
Makes sense, especially, given that the other poster's 2nd line order got the $300 offer. I believe you should be ok.

I read somewhere in this thread that Sprint will deactivate lines that are not showing activity. If you just use data, will that be considered activity?

Yes, data would be considered activity.

Last year, I had a line dormant (no SIM in phone) for six months and it was never de-activated, until I called to close it, so YMMV.

They would never do that as long as you are paying for the line.

Yep. They might close an inactive FREE line to get out of the obligation, but an inactive paying line is a cash cow.

The deal terms only say BYOD, but I don't think I remember seeing anything about needing to Port an existing number.

You need to take a closer look at the terms. It says Porting Required. See screenshot below.

Can an unlocked T-mobile IPhone 8 Plus be activated on this deal? The online IMEI search says, I need to contact customer service as it can't be taken online. I thought I read somewhere it's not possible to bring it onto Sprint?

It won't work. TMobile iPhone doesn't have the correct bands for Sprint

strange, I didn't receive a confirmation from portal, but when I checked my account it has a pending $400! hope it pays out!

I called the porting department, and all lines were ported after waiting, call took about 20 minutes.

CSR wouldn't give account number so I can register online and he transfered me to the 888-211-4727 deppartment.

I was able to register using the phone number, pin.

no to register for all the rebates & cashback!

Just be careful if you are after the $300 rebate, you need to place order online to qualify.
