can someone please post a step by step of how to do this? or a link to a WORKING tutorial with all the steps?
I think you just log into your Nintendo account at https://accounts.nintendo.com/ and select "Edit", then change "Country/region of residence" to Australia. You can change it back after purchasing the game.
However there are caveats. This will not work if you pay with a US credit card (not sure about PayPal).

Your Nintendo eShop account balance does not carry over when you change the country that your Nintendo Account is set to. You will need to use the remaining funds in your Nintendo Account balance before you will be able to change the country.
If a Nintendo eShop exists for your region, credit cards issued from your region will not work in a different region's eShop. (For example, credit cards issued for the U.S. will only work in the Nintendo eShop for North America.)

Thanks. Turns out you have to create a secondb Nintendo account with a new email, setting that second account to the region of the e-shop ( Aus in this example) that you want to buy the game from. Then you link the new account to your existing switch, so you now have two accounts listed in your switch. As you have l noted, most US credit cards won't work in the AUS eShop, and my US-based PayPal account won't either. Quite an ordeal. Wound up buying it for $60 from US e-shop. Well worth it. Kid is enjoying the game thoroughly. Repped
