Amazon has the Moto G8 play in gray for $145, and G8 plus for $205. Even less if you get it from their Amazon Warehouse.

In short: it works with GSM carriers, but not with CDMA (Verizon, Sprint). It doesn't have all T-Mobile bands.

It will have GSM only capabilities(no sprint, no verizon. No CDMA support at all.) Also may not have every ATT/TMOBILE band. I also believe these international models arent warrantied by the manufacturer in the US.
Thank you, I added your info to the OP.

Verizon is shutting down all it's CDMA towers by the end of the year.

T-Mobile: Supports B2, B4, B66. (Missing B12, 71)
AT&T: Supports B2, B4, B66 (Missing B14, B17, B29, B30)
Sprint: No Carrier Support
Verizon: No Carrier Support (Supports B2, B4 with a pre-activated SIM, data-only)
The other issue is probably VoLTE. It may work on T-Mobile, but definitely won't work on AT&T and Verizon. Without any low-band support, this not a daily driver, but useful as a cheap WiFi device paired with a data-only sim. You can do better with a used device from Swappa.
Also, it's a MediaTek SoC, so no XDA root/ROMs.

It has been my "daily driver" for the past few months using Mint and I have had no issues locally in Texas. My last phone was the international version of the G6+ and I used it traveling all over the United States and Mexico with no issues as well.
However, this phone is missing a lot of important bands for service in the US. You might get service but you're really limiting your connection options and taking a gamble outside of Central/South America (Mexico might be ok as well).
The US versions of the Moto G series often come out ~April each year, but who knows this year.
