Definitely notable.
But shouldn't matter to most people coming from slower AC speeds. They will still be able to stream video and do the internets.
Gamers might want to do their research first.
Goal: to set up my in-laws who are not tech savvy, have spotty/slow wifi with the spectrum router.
Problem 1: hardware - will this replace the spectrum router, that they are renting now at $5/mo? or is this in conjunction with?
Problem 2: maintenance - if the system does go down, is it relatively easy to get back up? (turn it off/on again)
Problem 3: initial set up - does it require going into cmd prompt, type in the IP, etc etc, or does it come with an exe file that walks you through it rather easily?
For a very basic setup it's probably ok, but any sort of functionality can be expected to be limited. I've had it since december and am ready to dump it already.
I had tried expensive USB Wifi adapters, internal PCie Wifi cards, etc. Then tried the Mesh system. For general streaming, it works very well, however for online gamng, I was still getting high latency all the time. Connection rate is good though at 866Mhz over my internal Wifi card.
Instead of running a 100 feet cable from my router to my desktop, I tried the TP link powerline adapter. Ran CAT6 cables on both ends of the powerline. PC is now connected at 1GB and all the online latency went away. I didn't even expect powerline adapters to work (if you look on YouTube, its usually meh reviews).
I've had the powerline for 2 weeks now and zero issues. I play MW every night for 2 hours and zero issues with that either. Just another alternative.
PS: My house is 10 yrs old since powerline depends a LOT on the quality of your house wiring.

you can buy a modem (make sure it's on their approved modem list) and then return the spectrum modem to save on the monthly rent..you will still need a router though..
2- not sure, it should be
3 - it uses a phone app, so it should be relatively simple to set up..

How much slower do the speeds get?
