Pork bones splinter and are not recommended for dogs. Beef bones only for dogs.

Seems like a deal until you get the $75 xray and antibiotic bill for your doggie.

This is the same price I paid several months ago from the same vendor on Amazon, so this is not the lowest price EVER. Yes, they do splinter so I will not buy again.

RAW beef bones for dogs. Buy this if you want that $3 to turn into hundreds or thousands in surgery bills. As ScrewDriver1965, cooked bones splinter.

It's been the same price on Amazon for more than a year (since January 30, 2019).

Most problems from Femurs and other weight-bearing bones are due to cracked teeth. They are highly dense in order to support the weight of the animal; dog teeth are not nearly as dense and as a result an overly excited dog or those with high leverage jaws (like Akita, Cane Corso, Husky, American Bull Dog, etc) can easily crack teeth on the bone... esp when they leverage their rear teeth on the shaft. Example of a non weight bearing alternatives are knee caps and ribs.

Yes, cows are bigger than pigs but the same size beef or pork bone doesn't matter. Raw pork bones at an appropriate size (longer than your dogs muzzle) are totally acceptable. Pork gets a bad name because too many people give their dogs small pork rib bones which cause expensive vet bills. Since this bone is cooked it should be used as a supervised chew toy only and whether it is beef or pork is irrelevant.

Ask your vet. The standard advice is the same as what this one writes:

Tldr: don't feed weight-bearing (or cooked) bones to dogs

Was about to order, but a good number of the reviews from people that actually purchased this coincide with what people are saying on here. 😬

As others mentioned, avoid cooked bones and stick with raw beef bones. A local butcher is a good place to get them for a decent price. I have also found them in Asian supermarkets (e.g. 99 Ranch) in the meat section, but they will normally be cut smaller than what you can get from a butcher. My dog loves the raw, beef bones straight out of the freezer. I typically make him eat them outside, but I do check in on him periodically.

Your article agrees with me in that raw pork bones of the appropriate size are acceptable for consumption but presents raw beef bones as being unacceptable. Was that the point you were trying to make? Sounds like a drinking from the garden hose debate. I did not say feeding cooked bones is acceptable so your statement at the end doesn't have a clear purpose either.

Exactly.

Our dog almost went into kidney failure from my (failure) mistake of buying this bone.

He is still suffering and not out of the woods yet.
