I've got this machine and the screen indeed is pretty bad (but it was $200, so eh) you can make it slightly better by adjusting the gamma in the Radeon control center.

The rest of the laptop is just fine especially for the price, decent keyboard, trackpad etc.

Yeah, I was going by the claim of 178 degree viewing angles on the ASUS product page. Of course it doesn't talk about sub-models.
