I picked up Steams re-release when it came out, but hardly played it. Actually been playing it a lot when going on furlough from my job the past few weeks.
Is the tale of the dragon expansion worth getting?

I bought it on sale mainly for the giant maps variants and extra map types you can play on. The new Chinese are essentially broken because they have monks that can convert units(or kill them I can't remember). The campaign was really buggy when it launched but I haven't tried it since. It's a small price to pay for a little more enjoyment out of a great game.
It's a little older. More comparable (graphics wise) to Age of Empires 2. But it's a lot of fun. Been playing Age of Empires 2 and 3, Age of Mythology, Empire Earth for years. For RTS games it's definitely more like Age of Empires 2 then Command and Conquer or Empire Earth.
