I'm tempted, because I have the money, and I need the drives. Would save about 7-8% if it were $120 instead of $130. I can't decide if it's worth it to wait or not. I need 5 drives.

The WD 8tb drive doesn't come up very often and it's been since Jan that it went on sale (I've been waiting this whole time). It's mostly the inferior Seagate version that goes on sale so if you have a need I would suggest jumping. Last time it seems to have gone below this was for xmas sales.

I could wait 3-6 months. I have an array of 4TB drives that is at about 44000 hours (I think two disks have been replaced, so only 4 drives are at the end of life). I should probably bite the bullet as I type that and re-read the number.

Bought a similar EasyStore at Best Buy for the same price 6 days ago. This seems to be the going price when these are on sale, unless you have an additional coupon.
At most, you might save $1 per Terabyte if it were $10 cheaper, so just calculate that in as you consider waiting for a cheaper price. There's pretty much only WD and Seagate to choose from in this capacity and price range.

I think for the shuccc drive, the magic number you are looking for is $14/TB. During BF and Chrismas last year, you may be able to see $12.5/TB.

I think it's 20% worse than the 10 TB.

Do these need the sata adapter or pin mod to make them detectable on PC?

It depends on the power supply.

I've purchased about 6 of these. I've needed it for every single one. I think most likely the only people who claim it works fine for them are the ones using an old Molex to SATA power cable adapter. I personally don't use an adapter or do the pin mod, though.

I have a full modular Seasonic PSU so I just bought an extra SATA power cable and snipped the 3.3V line. As far as I know, no internal SATA drive uses the 3.3V line for anything important so I'm not concerned about it and it means I don't have to use any adapters or modify the drive at all.

Or you can get a small piece of kapton tape and cover up the first 3 pin of the drive.
