I've been eyeing the Push 2 + live suite for a few years now and the cheapest I've ever seen it go is $1000 during this past Black Friday. I didn't buy it then and wish I had. This is the third cheapest option of obtaining the Push 2 + live suite (second is the 40% education discount, first being wait till another BF deal ).

These can be found cheap for $99 if you're patient and INCLUDE Live Lite. Using a controller will greatly increase your workflow efficiency.
For beginners, the 16 channels is more than enough (it was 8 when I started using Live, maybe even 4 way back when) to create music, especially with creative routing and flattening/ rendering audio.
Couple Lite with a vst like Serum, Pigments, Massive X (all which can be had for cheap during specials, just sign up for emails with those companies and you're gtg.
